I'm watching this video in April 2024, at a time when the Stark Town Board is considering a proposal from a private developer to place large wind turbines and solar farms across the area. I hope they will watch the video and think carefully about the area whose natural beauty would be diminished if such projects are approved. My wife and I recently relocated to Van Hornesville from the Pacific Northwest. We chose Van Hornesville for the very reasons mentioned in the video. Although we looked at several beautiful properties, none of the others had Otsquago Creek and the nature trail running right behind it. In fact, the decision was sealed as soon as we walked on the nature trail and my wife said, “THIS IS IT!” How could I argue with that? I’m sure there will be other newcomers who, like us, are drawn here because of the unique charm, history, and natural beauty. Will they want to come after wind turbines and solar arrays have littered the area? Local leaders should feel ethically bound to preserve for the enjoyment of future generations the natural, cultural, and historic character of the areas they serve. I hope our leaders will take this to heart when making decisions about the siting of energy and other infrastructure that would permanently alter the local landscape.
