That’s how a ballet dancer does it! Whimsically, athletically and with poise and grace!

What a revelation, after seeing her ballet work, to watch her do the Charleston. To borrow a line from "The Red Shoes," she was poetry in motion.

That is artistic and female perfection.
@sorellman2 жыл бұрын
Speaking of female perfection, in the 1920's the Charleston was banned in many dance halls because it had the potential of showing too much of that female perfection. Female perfection could never be denied, especially in Moira's case.

She's beautiful she's wonderful she has gorgeous legs but she has knows nothing about the Charleston a ballet dancer into a Charleston chick. About 20-30 years ago Michelle Baryshnikov decided to take up tap dancing but it just couldn't really look like a tap dancer it's a whole different body movement but boy I still love more share wonderful

Highly recommended: Michael Powell's "A Life IN Movies" (1986). Moira (pronounced "Moy-rah") is it (everyone is!). Warning: Knopf's editor didn't give a damn about event date accuracy.

Powell didn't give many damns either. That sprawling saga is about as reliable as Sternberg's Fun in a Chinese Laundry or The Two of Us by Cyd Charisse and Tony Martin.

@carlberg7503 Жыл бұрын
Shearer is a beauty nonpareil and elegant, but compared with Ginger Rodgers or Joan Crawford or Josephine Bakers, she's too slow and inhibited. The charleston is an explosion of ENERGY. Prim and proper have their place, but not in the charleston.

Better than Fonteyn for sure. Still, the Queen was a friend of Fonteyn and gave her a Dame. Moira got nothing.

@@frankfarrar4877 There was a lot of politics in ballet. Still is. The English establishment was jealous at the fame Moira gained in the United States, particularly after the Red Shoes film. There was a lot of spite directed at Moira at the time, but probably by the ballet establishment, not Fonteyn herself.
