Ive been drawing and painting since I was 4 years old, In middle school I was offered a full scholarship to one of the Art Institutes for use after I graduated high school, along with a controlling Father wanting me to go into the military, I was crushed early on, when I found out people don’t want art these days, they want the “essence” of art, something that boosts that feeling of status so much that they smell their own farts. One of the most successful “artists” just makes a block stamp of a single palm tree on a canvas, then splatter paint on the next. A photo of a potato sold for a million dollars. In my AP art class, I became physically sick when I participated in a critique, I painted Freeza standing over a Cubone, just because I wanted to, there was no meaning to it lol, but they spent an hour talking about how “the artist” was heavily political and wanted to tear down the establishment, and they were serious…

i feel you on that. in my ceramics class everyone made art that was political. alot of them where obsest with pregnant ladys. i made a alien character bust because i thought it was beutiful in my eyes and no one really said anything about it because i didnt have this long story aboout struggles and how something bad. i just wanted a cool alien lady. i get having meaning in art but damn, y so political. also the teacher was an ass. he made me start over cus it wasnt big enough. when i was done presenting i pushed it on the ground and let it break. i was still mad he made me start over and i had no room for it. so i destroyed it and stood there. i acted like i didnt care but inside i was shitting my pants because i couldnt believe i actually did it. i did clean it up tho cus i felt bad. but ya i never went back for a third semester.

I used to like Kincaid's art as a child when I first saw it. But being older and growing up in the late seventies and eighties you could not escape his art it was everywhere. There was a shop in every Mall in America selling reproductions. And after seeing a thousand of his paintings of houses it does become fairly nauseating. It just became annoying and overtime I found his art to be so hyper commercialize that it was just distasteful

I really don't understand the hostility towards abstract art, I don't call myself an artist but I make art and I can't say abstract is my cup of tea I understand why people enjoy it. When you go to a museum they are not forcing you to engage with the art you don't like, but for other people do enjoy it and there is value in that and is not "dog shit art" its just something you don't like and doesn't equate it to that. on the subject of the art world as a whole YES it absolutely is corrupted and sucks and the people are the worst, I love your content keep it up! (also art is silly and I do agree some are totally not warranted but who am I to say what is considered art.)

I think it's more so because that's all of what's being showcased and sold nowadays. There's tons of hack artists out there where all they do is splatter a bit of paint on a canvas for 5 minutes and then sell it for millions of dollars. That combined with the fact that pretty much everything in galleries is abstract and modern art I think it's probably the reason why people hate it. Personally as an artist, I mostly feel neutral towards it? Some of it looks nice while some of it is just colors on a white background (although I will say, doing abstract or modern art is really fun. Am I old art class sometimes we'd have picture of project like that or when I'm bored and I don't know what to draw I'll just make shapes and colors overlap each other, it's nice not having to worry about if something looks right or if a face and body is proportional.)

I agree to a certain extent, but, I do think that there are some really good artists out there who are successful that can be cool people as well. I think a big majority of the population of those artists however are like how you say they are, so, I do agree with you. I'm an artist and illustrator myself, although, I don't do it as often these days, but with that being said, I try to be as kind and humble as I possibly can to the people around me. With that being said, a lot of these comments don't even make sense and it kind of sounds like there's a lot of jealousy as well. Whether or not Thomas Kinkade is your style, I've always enjoyed his work and thought of him as a highly complex painter. But, yeah, there are some crappy people out there!

@@fragglyone7607 I agree with you as well, I did say "artists" lumping them all together but i was mostly meaning just the art critics, because as there are quite a lot of artists like that they're out numbered by the art critics that are way worse because if the artist is a douche it only really affects people who interact with them, but an art critic, they will cyber stalk/actually stalk you, threaten you, spam you with dm's, etc and they'll do that to anyone that disagrees with them or even just likes something that they hate, it's actually pathetic tbh. YES I 100% agree I also think a lot of hate is from jealous people it's like that for everything. I actually do like his work there was a couple that seemed like too much was going on but the rest I liked quite a lot.

@@SirRobertTheGreen For sure. They probably couldn't be artists themselves, so they became critics instead, making themselves feel better. Not saying that's what it is, but there's a lot of psychology behind it. How could you be so hateful towards somebody who's so skillful with their craft whether or not it's the kind of art you like? There's no reason for hate like that, it's irrational, illogical and unfair. Do the people who harshly criticize your work even though it's done well, do not listen to them, they are a minority. Listen to honest people who talk to you about your work, especially fellow artists who will give you critiques on how to improve your art rather than destroy it with hate. If your work is made properly, it doesn't matter what they have to say. Let the success of your own works speak for themselves.
