Well... To be fair a lot of them are scavenger hunt puzzles, I don't see it as a negative. For me that's what resident evil always did 1-4 anyways. I like that after completing a section, while running back through to get a puzzle piece, new enemies spawn or you're being hunted.

@doclouis42365 жыл бұрын
@@MoistPancakes Kind of a staple of the series since the beginning, the puzzles have gotten easier since the series has moved forward and become maybe more casual friendly/linear (ie RE4, RE5 etc. haven't played 7). I'm glad the devs kept the puzzles relatively difficult almost like the old games, kinda shows how much of a short attention span modern gamers have if backtracking in a Metroid-vania level designed game is difficult for them. Also doesn't make sense if Charlie's comparing this game to Breath of the Wild, since that game is so heavily different from this game within the context of the world and how and what you use to solve those puzzles that it really shouldn't have been brought up. I'm assuming he mentioned Botw because he talked about how many solutions you have to those puzzles, but puzzles in most 3D Zelda games are pretty much easy and don't require too much thought put in. Very glad Capcom is at least keeping the series alive unlike another survival horror series who's devs pretty much abandoned it some time ago. I'm looking at you Konami.

I think the later games the zombies felt too human, having them slow with a mob like mentality and a shit tonne of health is how classic zombies should be done. Though I have to admit, the zombies tend to play dead a little too much.
@SuperRedNovaDragon5 жыл бұрын
I like the zombies in this one. On standard 3 shots to the head can put them down. There's like a dice roll of damage it always feels good to get a critical head shot. Even if doesn't put them down you get a fair number of combat knives to finish them off.
@logiclunacy6065 жыл бұрын
Corbin Kendall Yeah the zombies are great in RE2 remake ..... though like I said they get back up way too often... like not just playing dead once but like 3 or 4 times.... can feel a little ridiculous. In the classic games the zombies would drop a pool of blood to indicate they were really dead.... but there's no indicators with this, the zombies lack consistency with how much actual health they have which is both a good thing and a bad thing.
@SuperRedNovaDragon5 жыл бұрын
@@logiclunacy606 well I never have an issue telling if a zombie is dead. If it falls to the ground I'll pop another round in the head or slice it once, if it doesn't react it's completely dead. The item scavenging "puzzle" aspect is part of the appeal if you ask me. Gives it a Metroid vibe where you have to explore and find what you need to progress. It doesn't have to always be a puzzle, it can be a simple mental understanding of "Oh, I found this, now I know where I can go next". And you then have to compare that info with any other items along potential routes you could collect, or enemies you left behind that might get in the way. And zombies being durable isn't a big deal. I've never had to use more than four to bring a zombie down to pass by it. But in those rooms where navigating around them is next to impossible, yeah, you'd better be prepared to spend that ammo tax.

IMO, bullet sponginess lends itself well to the atmosphere they're going for. Capcom knows well at this point zombies aren't that scary to a lot of gamers. We have certain expectations and we've dealt with far more powerful and frightening variations, so this should be a cakewalk. But when we pop them in the head repeatedly, or blow off their legs, or douse them in acid, just to see them get back up moments later, that says a lot. There's this pervasive fear that permeates the game, because any zombie whose head isn't mush or whose body isn't a charred mess could conceivably be well enough to get back up at any time. Any open window might end up letting new monsters enter a previously cleared area. Any zombie you meet might just have its head blown to bits in a couple shots, or it could very well eat up an entire magazine. You're not intended to kill every zombie you run into, or even to make sure a zombie is dead after one encounter. You're encouraged to save ammo by any means necessary, including stunning a zombie with headshots (which can backfire, because it's not always going to work - again, that's how you create fear in a seasoned zombie veteran - you can't predict exactly how things are going to go down and you always have to think on your toes and be prepared for a bad outcome) or taking out its legs to get by quickly. Really, where the bullet sponginess hurts the most is in repeat playthroughs. A lot of design choices are meant to make you constantly have to re-think your path and consider alternative ways to get to where you're going, or even reconsider going somewhere at all. It's brilliant at first, but slowly becomes more of a source of frustration as you improve your mastery and start shooting for certain meta goals.
@ericfieldman7 ай бұрын
I think it's too spooky and iconic to let you easily forget where you should go and what to do. First playthrough, I got bit like a hundred times, didn't want to be by the windows, inadvertently letting more in, kept missing shots in panic, etc. Second playthrough months later, I followed the established rules, remembered a lot of the details, and cleaned out. Finished with 100 normal bullets and around 20 mag bullets with at least 10 green herbs in the item box. I think it's losing the magic it had at a fast rate now that I'm doing all the runs, but that first time was easily one of if not the most powerful game experiences I've ever had

Glad you liked the game. Capcom has stated they are interested in doing more full-scale remakes of this type of their various well-liked IPs, depending on fan interest. Due to the fine critical and commercial response to RE2's remake, I am sure we will see more comparable remakes of games in the Resident Evil series, and perhaps some other IPs as well. The inconsistency in how many shots it takes to down a zombie is a great design choice by the developers. You can never be sure if the zombie is dead or not and you can't aim at a zombie from a certain distance and think "No worries, he'll fall to the ground in three shots, he won't make it all the way to me by then" because you simply can't be sure.

And even in a best case scenario... I'm honestly not sure that is even a good thing to want from them. The Old game is just fine. If they really wanted to sell it again, they'd just re-release it on modern consoles. All they'd need to do is find the real completed source codes and just have a team not fuck it like the HD collection. And honestly, the Original Actors fit the characters due to the actors doing their lines first, and the animators did the faces after to match the tone and expression; and the facial animations look good even today. If I'm honest. I don't think SH2 is something that needs a remake. But no where am I saying it *can't* be good. I would just not bet on it, ya know?

Cosmic Christopher I agree with you. And Mary’s final letter? The voice acting in that was perfection. Where the voice actor really cried. Superb. But I don’t think we’ll ever get that back. And of course Konami would fuck it up. But I still wish we could get a Remake as good as RE2 was. SH2 is my favorite game of all time. The HD was a disaster. I’d just love to see it with today’s graphics and movement controls.

Looking into the future, the RE2 Remake will set the bar high for remakes. I can't wait to see other developers try to reach those standards.

There is actually a reason why it takes so many bullets to kill a zombie. The virus which has spread in the game is the G-virus which was designed to make the body highly resistant and durable as it was designed to be used on the military and what not.
@lucasmillerthelewderofloli93275 жыл бұрын
Nope. Most of the enemies in the game are still T-Virus. Birkin and the G-Creatures are the only G-Virus monsters.

Awesome. if you played the original RE2 like I did, you get a super nostalgia rush. As Charlie says, puzzles are kinda ass, zombies are bullet sponges, etc, but otherwise pretty great. Very atmospheric, and in the words of Borat... "Iss Niiiice"

Nothing is more satisfying than beating a remake of a game you've cherished since '98. Capcom has accomplished something Konami will never achieve.

Adaptive difficulty is the reason for the stun inconsistencies based on loading from check points after a death. Doing my S play through I noticed zombies became sneaky hiding around corners, started taking 5 to 6 head shots to stun, and enemies doing more damage. Made the game really tense, also because I was racing against the clock and that was on standard difficulty ended up beating Leon's campaign in under 2 and half hours.

Resident Evil 2 is nice and all, pretty moist, but not as moist as LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga would be on the Moist Meter.
