Their views were absolutely aligned UNTIL Cal thought about taking the Hidden Path there as well. The most important thing for Bode was that he and his daughter could escape the Empire and never be caught again. Bringing the Hidden Path meant that there would be an eventual conflict between them and the Empire - something Bode did not want for Kata under any circumstance. He was never loyal to the ISB or the Empire, but ultimately he simply lost faith in Cal.

@@spartansquid5931 but...that is his position. Bode is acting irrationally and out of fear and the want for his daughter to have a safe life. when cal beats dagen and agrees with his idea you can see bode is doesnt like the idea and acts strange whenever cal brings it up. the game literally does explain it. he realises that if cal and the hidden path make an army of rebels and jedi on tanaalor that eventually the empire would find it. "and when they come will you be able to protect kata from the empire" is prettyclear on his position and cals silence is deafening cause he knows he cant guarantee katas saftey while bode just wants him and kata to live without looking over their shoulders. i honestly dont see bode as evil he is doing what he thinks in right to protect his family but is going about it the wrong way. we see cal giving into the dark side for the exact same reasons. bode was so deadset on protecting his daughter that reason flew out the window. People would do crazy and horrific things to protect the people they care most about

at 6:16:20 charlie says "what's the alternative?" but the whole point of Bode being there alone was that he wasn't a threat to the empire, the empire has no desire to find him, but with the hidden path and cal there, that puts tanalorr as a major threat to the empire. It was so clear to me why Bode did what he did and I don't know why Charlie didn't understand.
@rofl9808
@rofl9808 Жыл бұрын
I don't think Bode would be safe because he wouldn't be a threat to the empire, but because it didn't know of Tanalorr and that he's there, that's why he led Cal to the ISB to attack their base. The hidden path would certainly lead the empire to Tanalorr eventually, causing it to no longer be a safe hiding spot for Bode and Kata.
@quindarius_bingleton
@quindarius_bingleton Жыл бұрын
@@rofl9808 yea, Bode said that the ISB commander let him stay there as long as he was useful, and so Cal attacking the base and, (as Bode wanted) killing the commander would mean he was clear of suspicion of being a jedi.

Bode never really says that himself though, even though that would make a lot of sense. His only excuse for cutting off the Hidden Path was essentially "They're strangers, Cal. Wtf?" Honestly with all of the information Bode had on Tanalor, his best bet really was sticking with the Hidden Path at that point. Even if they were discovered after they built up an army, the empire still wouldn't have a way to touch them unless they knew about the arrays. Just feels like Bode killed a lot of people for no reason

 @Swimmys his irrationality at the very end, when he was able to throw everyone for a ride the whole time, is what confuses me though. he was able to hide his sensitivity to the force from the jedi masters he works with while Kal is on Jedah; and from Kal himself, even while they were both fighting another powerful jedi who uses the force on them. what gets me the most is that, even with how ridiculous that sounds on its own, it would've made Bode so much more of a better character if it was just kept at that; him being a narcissistic sociopath who can twist the force like a tool to deceive other people. but then he completely loses his cool to it at the end. I just feel like the writers could of done so much differently to get everyone to Tanalorr. everything was fine up until after Cere's death

Charlie is the only person I've seen having a problem with the ending. It makes sense why he doesn't want a preparing army next door to his daughter and a possible warzone if the Empire ever caught wind of it, especially if Vader or even the Emperor was made aware of an new possible Jedi Order. Cal wants to continue the fight with the Empire while Bode doesn't want to but they both want the same place which is where the conflict comes from. It seems like a really easy thing to understand but Charlie getting stuck on that is strange.

I thought the ending motive was extremely clear and also very realistic. It's exactly how I would imagine a real father would act out of irrational fear mixed with love for their child in the midst of danger. In his head, he was perfectly fine with going to Tanalorr with just him and Cal, but then Cal offered the planet to the hidden path, which is one of the biggest targets for the empire (so much so that Vader showed up personally). That is when his fear kicked in. He knows that with the hidden path on Tanalorr, the Empire would eventually find it and invade it (just as the invaders in the beginning of the game did to Dagan). While his actions were irrational, they are completely understandable when you think of his point of view.

I get Charlie's stance on the twist, but as many others point out in the comments, the risk for his daughter is so much higher when you have the network of Rebels and Jedi like the Hidden Path is. He also mentions how if they all stayed on Tanalorr, the Empire wouldn't find them without the compass or the array, but we see in one of Dagan's flashbacks that the Nihil showed up in mass force, presumably without either. It would only be a matter of time before the Empire found it, especially with the greatest pilot in the galaxy as a sith lord. The more refugees go to Tanalorr, the more attention it gets from the Empire, the more risk Kata is in, and the more unhinged Bode becomes. EDIT: I've recently found out about the Nihil's ability to hyperspace jump to anywhere they well please, which is really cool! But even with that, I still believe it's definitely a matter of when and not if the Empire could show up to Tanalorr if they devoted the right resources to it, once they discover how vital it is to the Hidden Path.

The Hidden Path are literally some of the most wanted group of people to the Inquisitors, being pretty obvious because literally Vader showed up to deal with Cere. They escaped so they were still going to be hunted and them going to Koboh and Tannalore would definitely give them time to hide, it would eventually be discovered. Bode's reasoning is still completely vile but it's because he wants to be 100% sure that the empire wouldn't come looking for them. Two Jedi living there lives out in a place no one can find? That’s just a bad take. Bode clearly didn’t want Cal to take the hidden path there because he just wanted an escape for him and for his daughter, where as with Cal and the other guys would catch imperial attention eventually and a potencial conflict where him and his daughter can get hurt, and he was well aware of that. Maybe the execution and dialogue could have been better but it makes perfect sense.

I think the point of the hidden path is helping smuggle random people away from the empire (like in Kenobi) . Bode knew how easy it would be for the empire to get the location of Tanalorr through agents and spies (considering he himself is a spy, it make even more since). At first he was fine with him, his daughter, and the mantis crew staring a new life for themselves and never looking back. But once Cal started taking about smuggling random people onto the planet Underground Railroad style, he figured the best chance for him and his kid to NEVER be found is for only the two of them to go, thus leading to his betrayal.

The thing with Bode is he is really only working for Denvik sorta off the books from the rest of the empire. Bode was being hunted by the inquisitors, and Denvik offered him and Kata safety in exchange for working for him as a spy. So I don't think Bode could have just gone to Tanalorr with the group without Denvik finding out (he probably had a way to track Bode down should Bode try to get away) and sending Vader/the inquisitors after him. So thats why Bode let Cal track him to the base so that Cal could take out Denvik, and Bode could completely disappear to Tanalorr without the Empire knowing. I think the dialogue could've been better to explain all that out, but it certainly makes sense.

The choices Bode made, actually make a lot of sense once you understand his character. There are plenty of people in real life that make bad choices because they simply no longer have the capabilities to perceive the world around them with a rational mind. You can’t apply a rational way of thinking to someone who acts completely irrational. Bode, like Cal, was completely alone after the purge, making him extremely paranoid (also like Cal). And just like Cal he found someone that he cared about deeply, only for him to lose that person. At this point his only purpose is to protect the one person he still has left, his daughter. He doesn’t trust anyone but himself to protect her and he goes to extreme lengths to do so. With every atrocity he committed he became more and more paranoid, until he just couldn’t think rationally anymore. Anyone and everything is a potential threat to his daughter. You can see a similar way of thinking develop in cal after losing so many people in this game. He executes those he believes a threat to the people he cares about. Something he never did in fallen order. I expect that Cal will struggle to stay sane in the next game, since things will only get worse.

I feel like they kind of missed out on Degan. He never really seemed to be as imposing as the story suggested, and he died pretty unremarkably. Aside from that, and my mixed feelings on Bode's motives and logic, this story explored a lot further than the first game did. The inclusion of Vader also felt a little weird with him just leaving at the end, but I think it was a good way to send off Cere, which was probably his main purpose being included in the first place. Overall, Pink Poncho/10
@Spud1210
@Spud1210 Жыл бұрын
I agree on Dagan, he was a really cool character who kinda got sidelined and ignored for a few hours, only to die crying and whining about Tanalorr. However, I’d like to counter the other two points. firstly, Bode’s motives make total sense when you consider the context; he was a jedi who survived the purge, then lost his wife and is in constant fear for his daughter, who is all he has left in the galaxy. That’s enough to drive a normal man to do some terrible shit, but for a jedi, it is a 100% one way trip to the dark side, which we know clouds a jedi’s judgement entirely, encouraging selfish deeds at the cost of everything around them, and even their own future wellbeing. In Bode’s mind, everything he was doing was justified under the protection of his daughter, as the dark side of the force literally warps your mind to believe what you’re doing is right, despite all evidence to the contrary. And even without that, I don’t think Bode’s motives were that ridiculous anyways; he wanted to keep Tanalorr for himself and his daughter, with Cal as well at a push. The last thing he wanted was to invite the Hidden Path, the Empire’s most wanted, who he knows will eventually lead to a conflict with the Empire, and thus putting his daughter in peril. And regarding Vader, it makes sense that he would personally come down to deal with a potential resurrection of the jedi order, as well as a known surviving jedi who has survived him in the past (actually two counting Cordova, who the Empire didn’t know was dead yet). However, the point about him leaving is actually not that outlandish, as his job was practically done at that point; he’d killed Cere and the majority of the Hidden Path, Cordova was dead, and the archive destroyed. Vader wasn’t really there for Cal, but even if he originally was, it makes sense that he would abandon that mission due to his injuries, and him knowing Cal has made himself a pretty tough force user in recent years, so he probably thought it best to leave it for now.

"Of course, sadly, Cal has to die in the end." why? if you're saying this because of Yoda's line in Episode 6. We've already gone through this with Ezra, and technically also gone through this with Ahsoka. People always say that all the Jedi have to be dead for that line to make sense. No it doesn't, they can still be alive but if they're inaccessible or Yoda doesn't know about them then the line still makes sense for the situation they are in. Yoda tells Luke that because he is the only one capable of confronting Vader. Ezra, Cal, Merrin, Kata, Ahsoka, Jacen being alive doesn't change that.

Anakin had almost the exact same motivations as Bode, blinded by the Dark Side and trying to protect his loved one disregarding logic in the process. Regardless of agreeing or disagreeing with his mindset, his mindset was that the Hidden Path and the Jedi would jeopardize the secrecy of Tanalorr. Vader and the inquisitors were specifically hunting the hidden path as well, as we know from Kenobi, which also in his mind puts Kata at great risk and he would know that due to the ISB. The force essences show that Bode tried to give Cal multiple chances, and was willing to take Cal's family to Tanalorr with himself and Kata. But the moment that Cal introduced building a civilization like the Jedi order and hidden path, Bode went against him and every time Cal mentioned it he looked mad. Adding more people to the population of Tanalorr intrinsically adds risk to his daughter. Way more so than if Cal and the crew were the only ones to use that as their home, think about how much traffic it would bring to the Empire's attention when dozens of ships, supplies, communications, etc. are going to and from Tanalorr. Cal's plan intrinsically put the secrecy and safety of Tanalorr at risk, but it was still the best option for those who are persecuted by the Empire. Look at what happened in the high republic era with Tanalorr, the Nihil invaded out of nowhere and drove the Jedi out even though it was supposed to be secret. He was afraid of history repeating itself, seems to make sense to me. Instincts of a parent to protect their child are immeasurable, especially when blinded by the dark side.

None of your chat could think of the simple reason for the betrayal. After you beat Dagen, Cal suggests Bode join the Hidden Path to fight back against the Empire. It puts him off, because he's working for the Empire to keep his daughter alive. The reason he shot Cordova was to make Cal angry and find the Imperial base where he and his daughter lives because they would not simply allow Bode and Kata to casually just walk out and go on some random adventure. Cal had to destroy the base through anger to buy Bode and Kata a slim window to escape the Empire, whom he was beholden to. Now that he betrayed the Empire though, he knows Darth Vader is terrifying to be on the opposite end of, where he was working for him before the betrayal, although indirectly, until the attack on the Hidden Path. Tldr; His daughter was a hostage to the Empire, as long as he was useful. After the successful destruction of the Archive, he became not so useful and needed a way to get his daughter out.

I understand that Bode wanted somewhere safe for him and his daughter, but there are still so many things wrong with this. Does Bode expect Kara and himself to live on Tanalorr alone for the rest of their lives? Kara is eventually going to grow up and want to leave the planet because she won’t have any contact with anybody except her dad. They need food and other supplies that they are going to have to go off world for, but more than that though, they need connection with other people, which they don’t have when it’s just the two of them. So Bode is going to have to go off world which would leave Kata alone on Tanallor. If something happens to Bode off world, Kata is completely stranded on Tanallor with no way off. Also, going off world has risks and he could still lead the Empire to Tanallor. If the Empire does come to Tanallor and they are the only people there, they are for sure going to die. So, wouldn’t it be a much better idea for the Hidden Path to be there? If the Hidden Path was there, it would give them much more security and protection. There would be so many more people there which would help protect Kata. Also, the Hidden Path clearly knew how to stay hidden from detection, so having them there would ensure that they could build a societal system that allows them to remain hidden, but still go on and off the planet and remain hidden. There are many more benefits to having the Hidden Path there.

The reason bode wanted to go alone is because Cal wanted to Attack the empire therfore declare war and automatically make tanalorr a target.

The infiltration part of the game where Cal wears the uniform makes no sense to me, wouldn’t the imperial forces on that station know what Cal looks like, especially with previous events of Cal being on that station and the station knowing he is there. With far superior technology compared to real life and no one knew what Cal looked like.

People seem to forget the fact that the High Republic discovered how to navigate the Koboh Abyss. Tannalore was never unreachable, the way to get there was simply lost to time. It could be a safe haven from the Empire, so long as they don't put in the effort to research it, which they certainly will do if they learn that the Hidden Path is there. That was the fear behind Bode's motivation, it sucks that so many people can't understand that.
@MorallyDubiousFrog

Tbf, the Republic only found a way through because Dagan pulled off basically a miracle when he found a safe passage through, which is what the High Republic put into the compasses. The only other way through is with the array, which is High Republic tech that broke halfway through a single trip. The Empire may eventually get through, but by the time they could bring any force to bear on Tanalorr, the Path would have already scattered. Not that it matters to Bode, the fact the Empire might come looking for it, no matter how successful, is enough to terrify him.

Cal saw both extremes, one where Tanalor will be a bastion to build a new army threat to the galaxy, and one where it's a safe haven, too safe that it's a secret to even the neediest of victims. He chose the balanced path.

Charlie refusing to understand the story is actually a bit tilting, lol. I watched his review first and after seeing the VODs and watching him talk during cutscenes, avoid force echoes at all costs, and I guess entirely ignoring the conversation Cal and Bode had after defeating Dagan, it's no wonder he doesn't understand Bode's reasoning or motivation. He even talks shit to a chatter at 5:37:00 that explains exactly what happened in that very cutscene Charlie ignored. He obviously didn't WANT to understand it for whatever reason. I definitely won't be taking his story reviews seriously from now on, I thought it was odd when he said the ending to this game doesn't make any sense....he didn't even bother paying attention to it.

I think it would have been just a little bit better if the reason Bode betrayed the group was because the Empire took his wife hostage and when he finds out later his wife is killed by the hands of the Empire, then he takes that moment to become overprotective of his daughter.

Bodes daughter is being held hostage. If he stops being useful, the ISB stops protecting him and hands them over to the Inquisitors. Bode has spent years with that fear, and realizes Tanalorr is a place where he and his daughter can finally be beyond the Empire’s reach.

I was of the opinion of bodes betrayal making sense. That the hidden path would endanger his daughter more than just the crew going there. Because an army on a hidden planet would be more threatening to the empire. But after hearing Charlie’s points, Bodes motive makes almost no sense at all. The hidden path would not endanger tanalorr any more than Cal, one of if not the most dangerous and powerful Jedi alive at this current time, being there, not to mention, if the empire did eventually find them anyway, it’s just stupid in of itself, because it would retcon the entire point of us even going to tanalorr in the first place

What is your point with the "cal being there"? his original plan involved NOBODY being there besides him and kata, that just proves his point more? Cal being there would be a HUGE threat because like you said "one of the most powerful jedi alive at this current time" would be making tanalorr even more crucial for the empire to take down/hunt?

Like the rest of the comments here I agree that Charlie definitely missed the Bode's point, however I think the fault lies in the writing. Bode makes makes it sound like he just doesn't want anyone else there, he talks about settling the planet with "a bunch of strangers", instead of adressing the core issue being risking the planet and safety of his daughter by bringing the attention from the Empire.

Shes young and easily influenced, Bode changed after her mothers death, and then he moved her to tanalorr which she didnt like and even tho he did it for her there can still be some resentment. Not too much Bode going all apeshit and villainous in the last part and almost hurting Kata.

Charlie's got a few points regarding the logic behind Bode's betrayal. Even if the Hidden Path were given the compass so they can get to Tanalorr together with Cal's team, how does the Empire get there? The arrays on Koboh maybe? But the game never showed us any signs of the Empire ever getting close to figuring them out. Furthermore, they seem to be decaying due to being left to the elements for so long so could we even speculate that they would work as intended for an entire Emperial fleet after what almost happend to The Mantis? And does the Empire even know about the arrays? Or for that matter, Tanalorr? I can't remember any time in the game where it was ever a race against them, only against Dagan and the Bedlam Raiders. If Bode fears the potential indirect threat of being on Tanalorr with an organisation wanted by the Empire, like the Hidden Path. Wouldn't the primary argument of assurance against that be something like this?
@Thenormieking
@Thenormieking Жыл бұрын
charlie didnt pay attention to the story at all. Bode only wants Kata to be safe anything that interferes with that is wrong and he rejects that. The hidden path is all that stands in the empires way as shown in Kenobi. Taking them with them would instantly make the planet a target. Bode knows this so he has to make it so only he and kata can get there. IE killing the only person who has a chance of making another compass

My prediction is that they’re going to get something going on Tanalorr. It’ll take decades. And when they’re ready they’ll come out of hiding to face the Empire only to find it’s long gone, and the First Order has also come and gone, and maybe Cal’s group merges with Rey’s at some point with that New Jedi Order movie coming up. Or maybe they don’t and just stay on Tanalorr. Who knows? 🤷🏾‍♂️
