I still can't get over the empty force "martial art" clip. He _knew_ he didn't have superpowers, so he necessarily _chose_ her to be the person who "failed", he chose to run through her and injure her. He wanted to give himself legitimacy by giving fake correcting advice, as it would be suspicious if everyone just got this advanced psychic skill on the first try. Either that or he knew _she_ was having doubts when she didn't feel her chi blasts after all her intense "training", so he singled her out as doing it wrong or not trying hard enough or not being advanced enough, gaslighting her that it was just her lack of skill stopping her kamehameha from charging. Then when he realized his actions had consequences, his decision to hurt her _really_ hurt her, he pretended to have a delayed smaller reaction. Hurting students is not good for business, these people join his cult instead of going to a boxing gym because they want to _feel_ safe and are intimidated by the idea of feeling violence by actually learning to fight. So he has to make her feel in some way secure, that she'll one day be completely safe from harm if she continues her journey of handing her life savings to him, so fake siezure.
