First of all, thanks to everyone that subscribed to my channel. I mostly post photography related videos, but occasionally other subject matter like this. For $179, I'm very happy with this purchase. It's quick and easy to use and SAFE. Now I can quickly lift my mower to clean the deck or remove the blades for sharpening.

Note, always have your mower in free wheel mode when lifting and lowering! Always use good wheel chocks once up in the air, and remove when lowering. Take great care to make sure gas will not over flow and leak out when lifted to full height, close the gas line off and or make sure the tank is very low before lifting and do not leave in the air any longer than needed. I have the Cub Cadet brand with the 550 pound weight rating and I am very pleased with the unit, just read all the directions and take caution.

Hey there Hooked on Photography, Nice video and well explained. About your "riding up on it" problem you related to @ 8:50 in the video, I think you should re-read the last 2 sentences of James Mitchell's comment where he says "You probably already realized this but if you swap the arms on the lift you wont have to drive over the tie offs. The manual shows the tie hooks facing the bottle jack." It does look to me that the 2 wheel support arm's should be swapped out left to right and right to left which would put the drive over bar flat down on the floor to drive over with no chance of bending. Hope this helps, Bob R.

Thanks for the video! I’m currently in the market for a mower lift and trying to decide which one to get. I really like how this lift pulls itself forward while it’s lifting. A lot of the other ones I’ve seen drag the mower towards the lift but if the mower doesn’t move then the tires begin to slip off or the lift starts to tip etc.

Gregg Chesser You’re welcome. Just be sure to buy the right one for the weight limit you need. The one I’m using is perfectly fine for normal riding mower but the large commercial zero turn I’m using it on is really too heavy for it but I only use it to lift it and put jack stands underneath it. I would never ever get under that mower with just this jack holding it because it’s just not designed to hold the weight of this commercial mower.

I basically liked this product, except the bottle jack and handle had tons of slop in the mechanism causing alot of wasted effort and then the bottle jack failed on the 3rd use and wouldnt lift any weight. I had to return it to Home Depot.

Nice demo, but you have the wheel holding bars on backwards. Reverse them to the properr direction and then no worries about riding over the strap hooks.
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 6 жыл бұрын
You can't reverse them. I already tried. The bars will fit if you reverse them of course, but the pre-drilled holes for the locking pin are offset, not in the middle. If you reverse them, then you can't insert the locking pin. It's not a big deal though. It works fine as is (with the bars that hold the wheels inserted as shown in my video).

Here's mine. This is what I'm talking about. First photo is how I have it installed now. Pin fits fine because the holes line up. Second photo is with the bar swapped over to the other side...and you can't insert the pin because the holes are offset, not perfectly centered. I'm not sure why they did it this way. #1: photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-HMKF55D/0/68b940a4/X3/i-HMKF55D-X3.jpg #2: photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-fZbC6LN/0/32459004/O/i-fZbC6LN.jpg

I found this on Oregon's website, but they don't sell it anymore and I can't find the owners manual for it there either. I'd call them and ask them about it. I see a long rod in the photo on their website. Maybe that has something to do with releasing it to lower it. Here's the link: www.oregonproducts.com/en/oregon-clip-lift%2c-hydraulic-maintenance-jack-for-ride-on-lawnmowers-and-garden-tractors%2c-folding-lifting-device-with-roll-on-roll-off-design-and-security-strap-%2842-086%29/p/42-086 Their number is +1 800-223-5168

I realize I am watching this several years after you made this video but, some things don’t change. I have purchased the 550 pound lift model. It is just like yours except it may be a little heavier. I had the same problem you had of getting the mower wheels onto wheel brackets. My mower would just drag the jack on my smooth concrete shop floor. I solved the problem by ripping a 1x6x12” into a wedge shape and using them as a small ramp. When I lower the machine I wait until it is a couple of inches off the floor and put a small 2x6 in the space under the tire. Then release the tire straps and let the mower down all the way and drive out. I never could get the tires in or out any other way. Now, it works fine.

Pretty neat. I have a Bradley Mowers 52 inch mower that weights around 950 lbs. Do think that this jack can pick it up?
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 4 жыл бұрын
It’s not rated for that much weight but I only use it to lift the mower to put jack stands under it. Then I rest the weight on the jack stands and don’t rely on the jack. If that’s all you need I think it would be ok.

Nice video. I have a 60" zero turn mower and the center mower deck wheel, when raised at max height. hits the lift frame. I read thar I need to turn front wheels backwards to clear lift. Haven't tried yet. Does that seem reasonable?
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 3 жыл бұрын
I always turn the front wheels to the position they’d be in if I was driving backwards. That gives me more room and space to put jack stands under after I get it lifted up.

Thank you for this tutorial. I am a female who has just become the man-of-the-house with regards to yard maintenance. I am learning as I go. I have inherited a garage full of men's tools which includes various jacks. I was hoping you would demonstrate how to insert your smaller jacks as extra precaution while the mower is fully lifted. I have a Craftman's 42 inch mower and would like to know where I'd put these extra jacks for safety.
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 3 жыл бұрын
Hope everything is OK and good luck with your new chores. Regarding the other jacks (jack stands), I usually put them on the front edge of the mower deck once the mower is lifted and then I lower the mower until there is weight on those stands so that both the stands and the jack are holding the mower up. Depending on how your mower is built (like a traditional tractor style mower for example, it would be different than a zero turn mower)...you might be able to put the stands under the front axle, near each front wheel. I would also make sure the parking brake is set on the mower before you get under it (one more thing to help keep it from rolling/moving).

Can you tell how much clearance I need on the back of a zero turn mower to lift it all full capacity of this Jack without the back of the mower hitting the ground
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 3 жыл бұрын
I would have to measure what mine is at the back when it's not lifted to find out what that clearance is, but I can say the back of mine does end up touching the ground when the front is fully lifted by the jack.

Thanks for the video. You sold me on this model. I've got a 1300 pound Ferris ZTR and it works great lifting it. Where are you placing the jack stands, on the deck or the frame behind the front wheels? You probably already realized this but if you swap the arms on the lift you wont have to drive over the tie offs. The manual shows the tie hooks facing the bottle jack. thanks again!
@ThePhotographyHobbyist

James Mitchell I usually put the stands on the deck and lower it just enough to have a little pressure on the stands but not the whole weight so the deck isn't supporting everything. Thanks for watching.
