In Episode 2, we leave the playa early in the moring to visit the Mojave Desert Megaphone, which is a bit of an enigma. We then venture into Afton Canyon to admire the beautiful canyon walls and the Arbuckle Mine perched 400 feet above the canyon floor. We then hop onto the Mojave Road heading East through the Mojave River Wash and over Shaw Pass to Travelers Monument, where we take a momment to place our rock on the monument. We then cross the Soda Lake Playa (Mojave River Sink), to find camp on the other side between Green Rock Mill, Luckie Spring and Cowhole Moutain. As day turns to night, we can see the lights of the highway in the distance as people travel back and forth from Las Vegas to Southern California.

When you were hiking your breathing sounded like long Covid, I’m finally getting over it after 8 months

I think your right about the megaphone. I think you bang on that thing and you can hear it for miles? Great video once again. Michele and I haven't done the Mojave, but it looks really cool 👍

I really appreciate it! The files from this particular trip aren't really mine to share as I was just a tag along, but I can tell you GPX files for the EMHT stages are on the Overland Terail Guides website here: www.overlandtrailguides.com/post/east-mojave-heritage-trail.

Have you consider AEV HD Spring. Just out 450 pounds in the back of mine and no drop at all.

great video Jeff ! That jeep is def squatting a lot. I try to keep things light ever since that happened to me (dont have a RTT yet). In fact I don’t use the LOD trail rack anymore cuz that thing is heavy. BTW, what clamps do you use to attach your shovel/axe to the LOD universal mount ? I tried using quick fist clamps but I can’t fit 4 of those on that universal mount plate.

Yeah, we're gonna keep working on optimizing weight on the back of the Jeep. Although I did buy that LOD Rack, I'm really wanting to fabricate my own setup on there that will be a bit lighter. Those clamps on the LOD universal mount are in fact the rubber quick fists holding the shovel and axe. I'm surprised you are not able to fit 4 of them on there. Is your mouting plate smaller than mine?

I just got the Inspire Overland Carbonlite. Its 80 lb, but I have not used it yet tell, you how comfortable it is. I went with the Adventure Rack System which is 180lb. Now I am trying to figure out where I can pinch weight.

My buddy Mike used one of those on his 2door. 80lbs is super light! I'm definitely looking into weight reduction as well, so although the roofspace tent is definitely not the heaviest, and I'm grateful to have been able to test it out, I think we're going with something lighter as well. Finding areas to reduce weight, but not compromise on capability/comfort has been a challenge for us.
