2:06 (Probably a bit late now) I think it's a good idea, but the sharp 90° transition might be a stress riser. Have you tried the same operation with a ballnose cutter?

After watching Abom79 I bought a cheap die grinder and Adam's 'flapper' trick with strips of sandpaper work so well for polishing deep inside holes.

Flame polishing is a possibility... That and pressure casting to press out air bubbles after using epoxy to glue it up.

I think you'll find Sharp HHS is the tool for acrylic, not carbide... 👍

Dont forget about the rule of beyond 3 Xs diameter you will need to have the end of the stock supported or defection becomes a big issue as demonstrated and is even worse with soft materials like acrylic.

Do you think a casting resin, or maybe a 2 part epoxy for the inside would both secure the shifter and give a smooth finish? Alternatively I suppose you could make a mold, cast the handle in place and then do a final engraving on the end. Probably only make sense if you were going to start churning out a lot of them with only the end engraving being custom. Anyway interesting tests, and it worked a lot better than I was expecting tbh.

Yeah it worked way better than I thought it would. I thought about casting it but for some reason decided against it.

I'm not 100% sure but super glue might crack that acrylic with time. Great video🍻

Not enough super glue to fill the part .. And if you don't use activator you get that white bloom .

I know this is an old video but I wonder if you’d milled a shoulder on that shaft before chucking it up might’ve strengthened it. At least spread out the break point? Cool vid! Came looking for how to polish acrylic 👍

Hey, thanks for the view! That seems like it could have strengthened it a little bit as well as having less stickout might have helped as well. Anyway, I haven't cut clear acrylic since then so I haven't really thought too much about it haha.

Sick job, old video but some 2c recommendation that might work. Is doing a helicoil thread then dumping black paint in then running in the helicoil. Would give off a solid black illusion with some pretty cool thread lines. Just a thought one something else that might be cool! Awesome vid none the less man!! Killer

Ohh...that would have been a good idea. I'll have to keep that in mind for future acrylic parts. Thanks for watching!

I wish to cut 10mm diameter colored acrylic rods into 50mm lengths in quantity and polish the cut edges. These will be used in jewelry production so a finished look is necessary. A slight bevel would be nice. These could be chucked on a drill press then spun against an abrasive or buffing surface. For instance a sanding/buffing block fixed at an appropriate angle. Some guidance would be greatly appreciated.

It seems like you could chuck that up in a drill press but I am worried about it marring the side of the part that is chucked up in the drill press. Seems like you could make the bevels on the part while having it chucked in the drill press then taking the part out and using a pedestal grinder with a buffing wheel to do the finished polishing. That make take out the marring marks if there is any.
