I played this song non-stop in 2013 when my ex dumped me. Can't imagine a better version of it. Never heard Chris Whitley's original, but this is as iconic as Strawberry Street to me.

@@MojoPin1983 It's like the best song Wolfmother never wrote. Almost crazy that it is one of Jeff's 5 most unknown songs and is still such a killer. How do you rate it?

@@owenhunt It’s one of the better songs that Jeff and Gary collaborated on. I prefer the Knitting Factory version, though. Cruel was actually covered by Canadian band, Default, whose lead singer once remarked on the rarity of the song.
