I advise people to be wary of Abhijit Iyer-Mitra. Beyond a point, he is no different from the average 'liberal'. He also believes in Ambedkarite tropes, which is basically what Hindutva of today has become (yes, 'liberals;' Hindutva changed, and your criticism of it is still stuck in the 1920s). Guilt-tripping Brahmins is an ineradicable component of this creed, and Abhijit Iyer-Mitra is an enthusiastic believer in it.

I have no hesitation in accepting him as an intellectual. But he has inherent contradictions when he says he is an atheist and on the other hand states he is a cultural Hindu.
