I’ve been using the stock “custom” pickup that comes in the Squier Matt Freeman signature P-Bass, which is supposedly modeled after his own ‘77. Not sure if I just lucked out on a gem, but it’s had studio & FOH engineers asking what kind of pickup I’m using because they love it. Sadly, after over 10 years of constant use, it’s becoming a bit microphonic. This review/demo is exactly what I was looking for about this pickup! Perfect showcase of what it can do. Thank you!!!

The Matt Freeman basses are awesome. Well-built and great-sounding. If you do need to replace the pickup, though, this is a great option.

Incredible, awesome playing style . the tone is incredible. just curious what cap are you using for this bass , type & brand ?, ( example : 0.047 or .1 ?)?. And have you ever heard of those blue vintage 'Ajax' caps and what do they sound like as I heard they are awesome for Fender basses / Fender P basses ? Thanks ! :D

I’m personally not a fan of the Geezers, and know of some P pickups that really blow EMG out of the water. That said, I wouldn’t compare this particular pickup to the Geezers because this pickup is specifically aimed at a vintage sound.

@@RumblinMan is the geezer considered vintage style? sweetwater has them listed that way. i didn't like the geezers either.

@@rcb_matt if the Geezer pickup is a vintage-style pickup, the world has seriously ended. EMG is like the furthest thing from vintage. I would need to look at the specs of the pickup to see why they say that.

I got a P with the geezers, and for that bass it works well but it's got a high mass bridge and ultra lite tuners (its an MIJ Fender and the EMG are better then the ceramics it had in before). I wouldn't but the EMGs on like a real 68 P or a faithful copy of a vintage P. They suffer from the same thing custom shop reissue Fenders suffer from - they aren't true to the vintage originals but can be fine in their own rite.

@@RumblinMan The Geezer pickup is supposed to be build after a 1960 Precision Bass of Bobby Vega, because Geezer Butler was missing something in the mids from the other Vintage P Bass pickups available, something the old 60s pickups have in his opinion. Did you play it before? Why do you think it doesn't sound vintage?
