Mokka/Trax Coolant expansion tank replacement

Welcome everybody to my first video!
This is the replacement of the coolant expansion tank on an Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, to be applied to a Chevy Trax as well.
This particular Mokka has the 1.4l turbo petrol + GPL.

Brilliant video, thank you!! Did you find any air pockets with your change? My coolant has gone down a little bit since doing the same as this video - does the air work it’s way out if it got any in at the time of change?

Not really in my case, however, as I suggested in another comment whenever you notice the level going down top it up and see if this continues. Shouldn’t happen more than 2 times I’d say, over that and you may be looking at a leak somewhere in the cooling system. Check heater core fittings as they often fail, check back in if you find anything! Have a nice weekend

Did the tank crack? Can this be same process for a 2020 chevy trax? I think the coolant tank is cracked.

@@Hey_its_Koda in my case it was not cracked, just preventative maintenance.. and yes the process will apply to a 2020 Trax although make sure to check for correct part #. All the best!

I have a 2019 petrol 1.4 mokka x, i had coolant under expansion tank, got it replaced and still not fixed. The coolant level rise when engine hot and overflows, i order a new reservoir cap and i have to bleed the air of the system to see if will fix the coolant overflow. Car is under 40k miles and i don't think it's a blown head gasket.

@gregst3r443 Hi. I replaced only the coolant reservoir at beginning, and still level was rising. Then i warmed up the car with the cap removed, and the level stayed ok. I ordered a new genuine coolant reservoir cap (which came on a different design than the one which the car came with), and all ok now.

It doesnt have a coolant level sensor?

Couldn’t find it in the manual I usually reference… 100% sure it is not present in the expansion tank

The top pipe would be your overflow hose… searching up the part I found this on eBay(link below), make sure that it has the plastic fitting at the end… Part number is 13484281. Please check with the part seller if the hose matches your vehicle. Not necessarily as in this case the reservoir is the highest point in the engine bay, however, when finishing the job good practice would be to run it without a cap until it warms up, if the level goes down top it back up to Max. At that point the cap can go back on and you’re set, repeat the process as many times as needed if you see the coolant level going down after warming up. It shouldn’t go down more than 2 times if you even have this issue. Greetings!

Il problema non si risolve cambiando la vaschetta perché poi cederanno le flange in plastica... Da cambiare è il termostato mettendo un bulbo che apre a 80 gradi

Certamente! Il video mostra soltanto come cambiare la vaschetta, a prescindere dal motivo. Quando a questa macchina dovrò cambiare il termostato (cosa che prima o poi dovrò fare) caricherò il video. Se hai consigli o suggerimenti per me o chiunque nei commenti possa usufruirne lasciane pure!

Chiedo a voi che forse ne sapete più di me a riguardo, Opel mokka X con impianto a GPL ed è la terza vaschetta di espansione che si buca (sempre nello stesso punto) sapete darmi una spiegazione? Grazie

@@gregst3r443 Il refrigerante cala fino ad un certo livello e poi sembra rimanere costante. La vaschetta si buca quasi in corrispondenza della paratia interna, nella parte che rivolta verso il motore. Da quello che ho inteso, leggendo su un forum, è un male cronico dei modelli opel mokka a benzina per le temperature liquido molto alte e bisogna rimediare con il termostato. Grazie

@@mauriziogrieco1034 okay, si purtroppo questi modelli ne soffrono. Già che cambi la vaschetta ti consiglio di cambiare anche termostato (uno che apra dai 90-95°C), per una piccola spesa avrai la completa risoluzione del problema (nella maggior parte dei casi). Non saprei consigliarti su due piedi, ma son sicuro che girando per i forum troverai il termostato necessario in vendita su ebay o simile.
