They are just traveling back and forth in the same timeline again and again. So it creates 3 or four layers instead of 2 layers to make it(film) look complicated while it isn't. It's a basic story not a great story like interstellar. Every ideas in this movie are common ideas not a unique Nolan idea like in the past cases.. even inception is a common idea but the way he made that film, the way he molded the story, the layers worked the way in that film is unique to Nolan's brain. But this film isn't amusing or connecting with characters nor rushing. He played using time in docking scene, he played using time in inception, he played using time in the dark knight trilogy.. but it feels like they had more time than they needed in this film as they can inverse themselves.
