The pronunciation with the English translation is incorrect because it changes the meaning of the name. Mokosh has no phonetic meaning. Originally in Old Russian there is name "Mokosza" , phonetic - Mokosha or Mokoshi (by Max Vasmer), which has a similarity in Polish, i.e. Mokra (Wet) or Mokrzejsza (More Wet). It has to do with the physiology of women pregnancy and birth. The mother goddess was given a similar but different name in the north Slavic , there name was "Kupala", in Polish it means "Kąpiaca" in EN; "bathing" or "wet". After the advent of Christianity, the meanings were changed and a male element was added to this name, the name Jan (Ivan), therefore now it only exists in general consciousness as Ivan Kupala.

Hello I am fully aware that this was posted 2 years ago, however, I am writing a novel at the minute and I am relying heavily on Slavic Mythology for my baseline for character development and a story line. I really appreciate these videos as you would be surprised at how little there is on these gods on the internet. You have been such a literal lifesaver and just the way you speak you can tell how you generally care and are interested about this and it just generally helps. Thank you so much and I wish you the best in the feature x

Thanks for educating me about her. My Russian last name is Маркоч, so I believe that my Slavic ancestors were connected to Mokosh somehow. I recently came across your channel and I appreciate the work you are doing. Do you believe the gods are real ETs?

I'm Christian myself but am fascinated by what we can learn from mythologies, both in what they teach us about people groups and the world. So, while I don't believe in these gods, studying them often gives me new ways to look at nature and grants me a look into the beliefs of my ancestors.
