Interesting methods of printing and backing the thin paper, albeit unusually labor intensive. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your technique! Would one be able to use Potassium Aluminum Sulphate in place of the Chrome Alum in your video?
@mokulitoLIVE
@mokulitoLIVE 4 жыл бұрын
I am very happy that you are interested in Mokulito. Using potassium alum may require skill. If you use potassium alum, it is better to do it in a very small amount. It's important to spend a lot of time from drawing to Sizing. The easiest way to make Mokulito is to use a mixture of chrome alum and animal glue as Sizing.

Hi, Motomi. I discovered your videos a year ago and I loved your work, so I tried mokulito myself. I saw you use many different techniques that turn out in beautiful several prints, but I could only manage to get a pair of prints from each plate before they got ruined. Which steps do you follow to prepare your plates from start to finish in order to obtain so many copies? Thank you so much for your videos, it's very kind of you to share your knowledge on this topic.

Dear Iviol13 Thank you for your comment and I am very happy that you made Mokulito. I use 4mm plywood from Home Depot. I draw with a lithographic tusche and let it dry well for a few days to dry the grease. Drying is very important for success. To make printing easier, I recommend sizing as shown in this video. After sizing, you can apply Gum Arabic to get the best out of the Gum Arabic. If you do not have the sizing material, allow plenty of time to dry after drawing. I would not put talc on the drawing or add acid to the rubber arabic. Next month I will publish the Mokulito technique book, 192 pages, with English abstracts. I look forward to your next comments. Thank you very much.

thank you so much. I am glad that you are interested in Mokulito. In Japan, basswood sheet or rawan plywood is very often used as the printing material for Mokulito. Especially rawan 2mm is cheap and popular. This video uses basswood sheet 4mm, but there is also a video using rawan. The texture is different, but the method of making is the same. Birch Plywood is also very good but expensive in Japan. Drip a little water on the plywood and see if it soaks in. It can usually be used for mokulito if water penetrates. Mokulito can be roughly divided into two methods, the animal glue method and the casein method.This video is an animal glue method. If your first mokulito attempt, I recommend applying casein solution and using a Cutter Blade to smooth the surface. The explanation of the casein method is kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2XWe2Bqg9Ktopo How to use Cutter Blade will appear at the beginning of Mokulito LIVE 65 Effect of Sizing kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGbMmJt7jdWLoZo, so please refer to it. Looking forward to your Mokulito 😘 Instagram: motomitsunoda instagram.com/motomitsunoda/

Hi, I'm trying to understand the complexity of Mokulito and why is it that my prints aren't quite as good. Do you add anything to the gum arabic? Like tannic acid, or phosphoric acid?
@mokulitoLIVE
@mokulitoLIVE 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I do not use tannic acid nor phosphoric acid. I would like to use the purest Gum Arabic possible, so I don't add anything other than water. I am applying Dosa on plywood (Sizing) so Gum Arabic works well. Dosa takes a bit of work, but makes printing much easier. How is your Mokulito made? What do you find difficult?

What is the function of chrome alum or alum burned? I knew that some used casein but this is a technique that I have never been able to solve. I would appreciate any information. Thank you
@mokulitoLIVE
@mokulitoLIVE 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. There are roughly two sizing methods of Mokurito (Mokulito) . One is to apply casein solution before drawing . And the other way is to apply animal glue solution after drawing. The reason for adding alum is to make the animal glue will not come off easily.

Could I use Nori with Sodium Alum? Instead of animal glue?
@mokulitoLIVE
@mokulitoLIVE 4 жыл бұрын
I've never done Nori or Sodium Alum so I don't know for sure. Animal glue and chrome alum are the most common methods in Japan. If you use chrome alum, the ink will get better. The first method devised by Ozaku, the developer, is to apply a gelatin solution. Then he developed the method of animal glue and chrome alum. After that, he also devised a casein method to make it simpler. Casein is pre-painted before drawing. An example of Paper Lithography using edible gelatin is posted on Instagram, so please refer to Mokulito if you like it. instagram.com/p/B-r0V-tH4E_/?igshid=c526kmipj7nw
