All of this was long gone before I was born but it's great to see.

Thank you for uploading this video. I have traveled along the road from Mold to Denbigh many times seen the remains of the old trackbed and wondered about the line which used to run there. This is a valuable record of when North Wales had a proper railway system and you could reach most anywhere by railway.

Some lovey footage Alan - I do remember the Mold train station when active and in service, although I was only a few years old at the time. Thank you for producing and kindly sharing the moments.

The live sound is an excellent touch on these old movies. People don't think of the trouble it took back then. It was quite extra expense and dedication for an amateur. It must have taken quite an effort to co ordinate and sync because it would probably have been recorded separately. I'm assuming the film used would have been standard 8mm gauge- perhaps even 9.5mm which was almost obsolete by then. The only other gauge available was 16mm which was semi professional, and a different ball game entirely.

The supermarkets had a field day thanks to Beeching closures and others . Nearly All disused railway land snapped up by them .

Fascinating video. I can just about remember seeing a steam loco at Ruthin while being taken to catch the bus home after shopping (before I started school) - all the buses to/from Ruthin ran to the station yard, and only moved to Market St/Wynnstay Road after the railway closed.

I always think this was a lost opportunity. The line existed,( as far as Rhydymwyyn) and Mold Station stood until 1985? Ish. It would have been relatively straightforward to reinstate the railway as far as the outskirts of Denbigh. Sadly the river Clwyd bridge was demolished in 2013. Its all over built now. Good film btw.

Like many more routes this should never have closed, upgrade it, use it to make it pay. Short sighted policy that never built upon existing resources. What folly.

Thank you/diolch. I grew up and lived in this area during until moving abroad in 1984 but too young to remember the actual trains running on tracks, although do remember the tracks. I think there is a Tesco on the Mold railway station now and something similar in Denbigh. It was fantastic to see these old films. 🙏

It was a disgrace the closure of the branch lines, the railways should be in public hands and not private, if the government was crying poverty and saying there wasn’t the money to keep the lines open then we as taxpayers should have had one voice and said our railways are important if you can give millions away to foreign countries then you have enough money to keep our rural community together with the lines staying open

Such an insult to the toil of those that built the lines.

I remember living a stones throw from Broadgreen station Liverpool in from 1957 to 1963 .The steam trains were still running on the 4 platform station line to & from Liverpool city centre . The line is now reduced to two tracks due to motorway ,I think it’s nothing short of criminal what they did closing many great railway lines .If it wasn’t for the fantastic scenic narrow gauge railways Wales would hardly have a railway system .

And they are reopening the closed railways in South wales and electrifying them, what a wasted opportunity for travel across north Denbighshire the amount of traffic on the roads and extra people now living in northwales what a waste
