Hello and welcome back to Mickey's Flightdeck.
In this video I will show you how I made my first knobs for the panels of my Boeing 737-800 homecockpit.
Thanks to Rainer Habekost from Trollfactory for making me available all the needed materials. If you want to know more about the products visit his website at trollfactory.de/

Hi Michael, thank you so much for all these videos. I started some years ago uploading same content videos but in Spanish since there wasn't a lot of information in this language about custom cockpits. Right now I am taking my final exams but when finished it would be awesome to record a video about your project and share it with my subscribers so you can get even more people on yours! Best regards and waiting for more of your videos!

Another great video that passes on ideas you learnt from the job. For the black lines on the knobs I found it best to mask the area and paint them as a solid black rectangle - then carry on like you did for the white lines, painting the white inner stripe over the solid black area.
@Mickeys_Flightdeck
@Mickeys_Flightdeck 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, this could have been easier because you only have to draw a single line.

Good job. I would print out the black/white line on paper and glue it on the knob. Finishing with a tranparent color layer.

Hello, congratulations for such good videos. Could you please tell me what 3D printer you use? I can't wait to start. Thank you so much. Greetings from Santa Marta, Colombia. I am making the cabin of the Airbus a320 and I am already quite advanced, but now before the Korrys I am going for the Knobs.

For filament printing I'm using the Prusa MK 4. But for knobs I'm now using the Elegoo Mars 2 Pro. For airbus korreys maybe you can find some inspiration in my video #77.

Have you thought about making these illuminated? Maybe casting in a clear or light translucent resin, then mask the "white" line and paint black, then mask the white and black edges and paint the rest gray could work. Then on the backlit panel, have an illuminated ring around the shaft.

I think I will try something like this in the future. The buttons for my EFIS are backlightable. I'm not sure if it is nessecary to iluminate these big knobs too. Because of their size you can see the position even with low light. But I will compare the effect.

@Mickeys_Flightdeck
@Mickeys_Flightdeck 4 жыл бұрын

@karlheinzmrazek830
@karlheinzmrazek830 5 жыл бұрын

What would be the ball park figure for setting up from having nothing? Cost of 3D Printer, Software, Materials?
@bazjo

A320sim Manchester a 3D printer is an essential part of every workshop nowadays. It depends on your quality standards and budget, reasonable results can be achieved with printers for 150€, a good quality prebuild machine will cost more like 400-500€ Check out Makers Muse channel which is purely about 3D printing. If you need only some high quality prints, you may want to get them online from an SLS based machine or may ask the engineering’s departement of your local university who often have high quality sratasys machines where the powder can not be reused many times and small prints besides larger ones are basically free in material cost for them

If you only mean the 3D printing stuff. I have bought the Geeetech A10 for about 180 EUR. About 20 EUR for a roll of PLA. The software I used is Fusion 360, Meshmixer and Cura. All of them are free.

The backlighting of these knobs is only possible when you use a transparent resin.

Back in the day, drafters used thin tape for some of their drawings, something link this: modelingmadness.com/scott/accessories/jammydogtape.htm . It would provide very crisp black lines on your knobs. But for your small volumes it might be easier just to cut your own. Really like your vids!
