Tabby cats are notoriously smart, curious, and get bored easily. That and how cats can smash themselves down to the size of their heads make them very hard to keep trapped. She will be one of your best mousers when this is all done.

A color and pattern of a cat doesn't determine its personally or traits usually lol tabby literally is just a few characteristics that happens in different breeds of cats, "Since the Tabby sports unique color combinations and isn’t any kind of actual cat breed, countless breeds can fall into this category" That statement is equivalent to and meaningless as saying curly coated dogs are smart, curious and get bored easy.....pretty broad non descriptive statement being as there are may dogs breeds that fall into that category.... 1 minutes of research determined from just one site there are like 9 breeds that commonly produce tabby pattern kittens....

@@khancrow8212 In domestic cats a tabby coat can be a sign of a higher share of wild cat genetics. But it usually depends on the pattern. The more spotted the cat is the more active it might be. But of course, this is just about likelyhood, not a guarantee.

Momma cat is probably bored as hell stuck in a room with baby. Some cat toys (without strings or ropes) would give them both something to do, might even help baby become a better hunter? Also if momma isn't spayed yet, she's probably looking for trouble, you don't need another litter out of her, time for the snip.

Bring them some mice to hunt. Live trap some mice and dump a couple of mice in there. Something else you can do to help prevent the cats from running away, is to take some spreadable margarine or soft butter from the grocery store and rub a small amount on each paw. It's an old Midwest country/farm trick for new cats, where the butter will take away the old "home" smell leaving the new "home" smell to be picked up by the paws. The only problem is getting the butter on the cat's paws, but in my experience three out of four paws works pretty well.

I've moved many times over the years since childhood. One thing I've learned is that different cats take a different amount of time to know that the new location is home. Two weeks is not a hard and fast rule. From Molly's behavior, I wouldn't worry about her running away. She just doesn't want to be cooped up in that little room. I think that instead of making her see the barn as her home, you may be inadvertently making her see it as a prison.

Morgan, when you trained Pablo, you let him stay in a cage in the barn for a while. That allowed him to actually see (cat night vision) and hear and smell the barn surroundings. That way he developed a will to go and explore all of it when he is released. I don't see how this can be achieved by keeping the new cats secluded in a closed room.
@TheEleonore18

Cats have always the will to explore their surroundings. even if they are in this room, the windows are only closed with chicken fencing an d so they can hear an smell everything. a romm to train barn cats is always better than a cage because they have more room to move and cats want their feeding areaseperated from their toilet area, because they are very clean animals. this is difficult to achieve in a cage. as soon as they can outdoors they will check out the property and will do what they are supposed to do.....catch mice

Maybe start sneaking some small rodents in the safehouse, so Molly can teach Ginny how to hunt.

Raccoons can fit through some incredibly small holes too. Found out the hard way when one got into a chicken pen. It squeezed through a hole that I could only get 3 fingers into. This was a BIG raccoon too. Unfortunately after eating the chickens it was too fat to escape. I found the plump raccoon in the cage. 😡

You should use a bucket & trip plank trap to catch some living mice, and give them to Gin! The younger she gets to know mice the better she'll get at hunting them

It's part of a cat's job description to get out of tight places. Plus if Molly is seen outside alone she's probably made her peace w/Pablo barn cat. Time to unfeazle the Kneazles?

Love the names for the new barn cats. They look so much like a Mother cat we had back them I was a young girl. Her name was Jenny. I pray they both work out on the farm for you. & Moran You may say you are not a cat person at all. BUT you are a CAT PERSON.

Mama needed a break from her lil one. 😂 Can't wait to see her in action after she recovers from her spay surgery. ❤ After what happened to lil barn cat I don't blame Morgan for being extra worried/cautious. He may be a "city slicker" but he clearly works hard and cares deeply for animals. 👍
