Very cool to have an ad break right as the move happens. Absolute classic.

Also, not to mention showing a replay of it while Seidel moves to catch up. Yikes.

@@Tyler-dw4zyI understand that commercial breaks have to happen, but I was surprised that they didn't cut back to live-action when Seidel made her move.

You’ll notice that when Bates started her move, Molly quickly moved to the outside so she could counter-attack when she was ready.

Respect to the lady that surged. That takes guts. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you just want to go for it and see what happens.

Yes, but for a defending champion, this move was both ill conceived and poorly executed. It could have worked with two laps remaining, and was a bold brave move, but she didn’t have it on this day...
@shivpalps7653
@shivpalps7653 2 жыл бұрын
This move works if you are by far the strongest runner on the track, and therefore that energy-sapping burst of speed doesn't make you hit the wall. Bates was not strong enough to pull it off.
@runninggirl2765

If she could have pulled it off, people would have remarked "stunning, brave move, bold, destroyed the field...etc." Just didn't that day.

That Molly is one tough lady. She isn't even yet beginning to understand the full nature of her power and potential. And yet fast forward to 2020 Olympic Marathon trials, we are just getting a glimpse of her true potential, where she not only made the Olympic team but almost won the race outright. she still hasn't fully blossomed as the great athlete she truly is. Wish you the best Molly.

One of the best RACERS I have ever seen in the NCAA...similar to the legendary Lauren Fleshman during her NCAA career. Remember that Lauren totally dominated Shalene Flanagan for most of their college careers, even though Shalene had superior leg speed and supposedly superior pedigree. Difference? Lauren knew how to RACE, had that inate sense of tactics at the NCAA level, and Molly has that same ability. Not to mention both Molly and Lauren being tough as nails. Molly has the perfect sense of when to move in a race, not everyone does in the NCAA years. Besides that, Molly has near perfect distance running form, so balanced and symmetrical. Shows you don't need blazing leg speed to be an Olympian, but you do need to be racer smart, healthy and tough. I hope for a great, healthy career for Molly, she could be a great one like Shalene, who learned lots of lessons from those tactical losses in college. Lauren would have also had a much better pro career if not for those terribly timed injuries.

NCAA - why don;t you have all your championship races posted...I have looked in the past, and have such a hard time finding races. For example, just tried to find the 2014 10,000m race that was referred to often during this race. Nope. Such an opportunity lost.

At min:sec 19:00 one of the talkers says how running helps with health especially the brain. Parent needs to know what he says is accurate. I have kids that ran from 5th grade through and beyond college. I learned from their HS coaches that XC runners do best academically and are the least likely to get into trouble (best behaved). Running triggers what's called the "Brain Derived Neuroprotic Factor" (BDNF) which triggers the hippocampus to generate more brain cells. There is an excellent short TEd Talk by a French woman researcher on BDNF which is worth watching.
