WRITTEN ON SCREEN:
6:06 - I filmed this when I still thought I had captured footage of when he got home but apparently I didn’t because I was too focused on the “hot spot” issue!
11:50 I was on a work call when his grooming was done so my mom went and got him for me and he immediately ran in to see me and show off his new look when he got in the door so my call got interrupted with this cuteness!
18:38 - The PCR test came back normal, much to the vet/my surprise. We believe that it was most likely a doggy flu or perhaps a bad bug bite. The most important thing is that he’s back to his normal self and after 3 days of no harness work, we’ve been able to begin slowly getting him back to work again!!

Poor baby! I’m so glad you trusted your gut! Never be ashamed for being “an over dramatic dog mom.” If you know your baby is sick, you fight tooth and nail to get him seen. And if it comes back negative? Great! Better safe than sorry. As a disabled person who isn’t always believed, and has to advocate A LOT for myself, always trust your gut, and it’s better to have an answer, than to sit in the dark

1000%. i'm an "overdramatic cat mom". when my cat was a kitten, she had some bumps a few days/a week after getting some of her shots. being a cat owner/human of 20+ years i know about injection-site sarcoma and was worried it was/could become that, so off to the vet we went. they were very nice and understanding and they said it was probably nothing to worry about but they'd note it on her chart so it could be checked again when she had her next appointment. turned out to be nothing but the peace of mind was well worth it, and catching something early would've been as well.

100% agreed I just was in the hospital last week (won’t name actual hospital so calling it G) G’s care was some of the worst ever received in my life!! I set the heart monitor off twice while there no one came to check, was asked can you walk? Me: Yes, but hurts really really badly and supper slow. Them: okay ur walking then. I just landed on my whole spine and elbow could of broken something really badly. Them: we do not care at all vibes, fast walking no spotter at all, plus didn’t even check to see if I was still behind them or on the ground. I go to my doctors office today for the week out check up. I get x rays of my tail bone since G didn’t get any with there full spine, better pain killer, listened too and she even took the extra mile to make sure she didn’t skip over anything. I’m very glad that I found the right doctor for me who listens since it’s been circles with my other ones for years.

In veterinary medicine we always tell people “if you’re concerned we’re concerned”, you know your dog best. Don’t be afraid to overreact. Also $735 for an emergency exam, full blood work, and fluids is a steal!

That’s insane! I can have all of that done on myself at urgent care as a human for less than $100 with my insurance, which is very mid tier not great coverage. My kitten had a URI at 6 months so I took her in because she seemed to have odd breathing happening, and ofc I would pay whatever to make sure she got the examination and treatments and antibiotics she needed, but they know that and will charge you insane amounts to look after your pet. It cost me $350 and she was only sick for a week. It really discourages people from bringing their animals in for treatment when it costs more to take your dog to the doctor than both of your kids at once 😭

Make sure your groomers are not using any form of heat on him. No heat from force dryers or cage dryers, this could be what caused him to over heat in LA. The drawback of Mobil grooming is they have very little time to get the dog done so often use heated dryers to dry them. Take him somewhere you feel comfortable leaving him for at least 4 hours so he can dry slowly, it will be less stressful for him and better for his health. I don't take dogs for individual appointments, all my clients drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon, it sounds counter productive but is far less stressful for me and the dogs. Most nap while they dry and I do not use heat on any of the dogs I groom
@isabellarouse7293

I second this. Especially as he has such a thick coat, make sure whichever groomers you go to that they have AC. Double coated dogs are especially prone to heat stress. Also in the UK we call the pants, the trousers. Also with his trim if you want the wispy bits off you can ask for them to trim the "feathers".

Hi Molly. I groomed dogs professionally for 34 years before retiring and specialized in big double coated breeds. I still love to help people out and am willing to give you personal one on own advice. The double bladed "brush" you have actually is used to remove coat as it cuts it so it's a good product for Elton John so long as it isn't overused. It is best used on thick areas you want to thin out.

A thought....... I had a Spitz that EVERY TIME I had her groomed we had a sick dog, much the same symptoms as Elton John...and it was from having her anal glands expressed..... Vet said to ask them to leave her bottom alone....and they did and we NEVER had another issue. He might be like her, and he needs to have his bootie left alone. Never had any other dogs with this problem in all our years of pups, but little Shasta did.

Technically glands fall in the realm of vets. Groomers are often trained how to express them externally. The groomer should ALWAYS ask. It's helpful for the dogs who need it done regularly but most dogs dont and it should be a vets guidance if they need it regularly or not.

Our dog had an infected gland and she was a very unhappy doggy.. not as sick as Elton John tho.. her symptoms were she was chewing and licking a spot on her side until it got infected, but we couldn't see what the irritation was. Of course it was because the glands are inside, she was trying to get to them but couldn't. She ended up with a bit of a fever and was a bit tired and 'off' by the time we'd got her to the vet. Just in case anyone else has a similar situation. Not a vet btw. But in our experience, if she was a bit off there was definitely something wrong. We got her to the vet extremely quickly with a couple of UTI's, which is great since they can escalate quickly and cause other serious problems. You can never be too careful since they can't say if something is wrong.

Benadryl (which he already has to take for allergies) worked the best although still not great, but now that he's old the amount recommended makes him into a little zombie so we usually only do it when we leave now. Other times it's 100% just anger thought lol. One person will leave and the other will be on the same floor, all doors open, just thinking he'll sleep or chill like normal and he'll still decide to get up, poop, and return to chilling or even sleep like nothing happened lmao.

What you are calling a rake is still a stripping tool (which is what the furminator is). It's a bladed tool that will cut through mats. Use sparingly! Ask your groomer to show you how to use it. A standard grooming rake is not bladed.

Btw, advice for fever and dogs that tend to overheat in warm months. My boy's normal baseline temperature is 102. As a result, he overheats very easily in the spring and summer time. I have a few items to help keep him cool in the summer/spring, but they can also help for fever. -- Mission neck gators (made for people). I have a few on hand. I went them and tend to double or triple them. I put them over his ears and neck -- targeting the ears and paws will help cool a dog faster. I've even frozen these gators after wetting for literally two mins at the back of my freezer (that's all it takes) for added long lasting chilling effect, but use caution with extremely high fever because the freezing cold could put a dog into shock. In that case, just use tap water and keep re-wetting as needed or let it thaw some first. -- Mission also makes very large cooling towels, which will stay colder longer and be less drippy than a regular towel. Again, use caution if freezing for fever and let it thaw some first.or just use tap water. -- Coolvio B'Arctic shirt is the best cooing shirt I've ever tried (and was invented by two women who run their small business). You don't have to wet it, since it's really meant to work without water to reflect sun and uv rays (even on cloudy days) and indoor ambient light away from the dog. It really helps cool a dog's core by 30 degrees. However, on super hot days and in the case of fever, opt to wet it and wring it out because it adds to the special material's cooling effect -- and it's not drippy where the floors and dog gets soaking wet like Ruffwear and other cooling vests. -- There's also a really good vest that uses the same cooling tech construction workers use. I got it to keep my boy cool when he's wearing his leather harness in the summer which isn't supposed to get wet (before the Coolvio shirt). The freezer/fridge packs get cold in 30-60 mins at the most and extra packs stay cold all day until you need them when you carry in a small thermal bag. The brand is a Techniche TechCool Cooling Vest for dogs. -- I have silicone ice trays to make extremely thin pieces of ice. My boy doesn't like to drink when he's hot, but he will take very thin pieces of ice instead. They freeze fast and can be made super thin because they pop out of the silicone without breaking. -- There are cooling mats on the market. I don't recommend the ones that say they don't require refrigeration because a dog makes them warm after a few minutes. However, they make some with freezable inserts. I have the Cooler Dog Hydro Cooling Mat for Dogs, which is extremely durable for a big dog. Again, don't let a dog with high fever lay on a frozen mat, but if you freeze and let it thaw some, it will be a really nice option that'll stay cool for hours, plus you can have extra freezer packs to swap out. -- Also helps to get Oral Rehydration Solution type drinks/powders that work as effectively as IV fluids, BUT make sure there's no artificial sweeteners that dogs can't have. Always check the ingredients and ask a vet. I have one that I keep in the house in case I get sick with fever too! Gatorade/Powerade type drinks don't really help if someone is already dehydrated because they don't have the necessary proportions of electrolytes to sugars (there are medical studies on this). Keep an ORS on hand. Hope this helps!

It can if the dog groomer isn't doing a good job I'm sure. Like holding it in one place for too long. Especially sinse it he had an issue both times he was groomed. But again I don't know anything and I don't even have a dog. Lol

@@lc4life369 i appreciate what your saying, but she has sooo many followers and if saying one negative experience led to this, which imo it didnt. thousands of people will stop getting their dogs groomed out of fear. ive seen this all too many times! 'the groomer did 'XYZ' to my fufu and i will never go to one again'...fufu ends up with terrible matting that when its eventually pealed off her skin is bruised and so very dry. in some cases tips of tails, ears and toes are discovered to be dead due to the tight matts causing circulation to be cut off. Dont get me wrong, i love watching Molly and i know that wasnt her intent, but some people will pick it up so so wrong and fufu ends up hurting in the end! x

I had that feeling with my lab one day...he was a bit unsteady on his feet and was just acting off. Called in to work, got him into the vet....felt like a total overprotective doggy mommy as the vet took his temp, checked him out and everything seemed 100% normal (and he was acting pretty normal and making me question my sanity..lol). We went ahead and ran a blood test and while we were waiting for results, he started to pass extremely bloody diarrhea. So very thankful I followed my gut on that one because I would have completely freaked out if that happened at home, being at the vet where the vet techs jumped into action and helped us out right away was pretty much amazing and I'll forever be grateful to them. I am pretty seasoned with dogs, have owned them pretty much my entire life, fostered puppies for a rescue for a couple years (dealt with basic medical care of fosters, etc), so most times I do not jump to taking my animals to the vet. But sometimes you just have to listen to your gut when you know that something is off.

A single row deshed rake is my favorite tool, especially for the pants😊. The undercoat remover you have is so helpful, too! Looking forward to your next adventure together.

I hope that you never have another medical incident with one of your dogs as long as you live! I've been going through traumatic stuff with my own precious dog's health and the stress was so extreme that I almost had to go to the hospital on the way to his vet appointment.

Do you think maybe he had an allergic reaction to something the groomer used? Not blaming them at all and obviously it could very easily be a coincidence but a fever is a very common sign of an allergic reaction (not a vet but am pre med for humans so thought I’d let you know just in case!) so glad Mr Elton John is feeling better!

Though it could have just been a crazy coincidence that he had issues after being groomed, it's possible they're drying him in a cage and not using a dryer specifically meant for that purpose (stand dryers get much hotter than actual cage dryers). If he was laying on one side and the hot air was hitting one spot too long, that could explain the redness the first time. Some of the symptoms you mentioned are also the same as dogs that have heat exhaustion. Whatever the reason, I'm just happy he's doing better.

The video she shows obviously shows that he was dried with a high velocity dryer. It's more likely just a temporary localized reaction to something before he came in for grooming. I doubt it had much to do with the illness.
@user-fg5xe5tg3v
@user-fg5xe5tg3v Жыл бұрын
@@AccidentallyOnPurpose we saw the groomer use it for 10 seconds in the video. I'm not saying this is what happened. I'm only saying it could have. It's not uncommon for them to use a forced air dryer to get the bulk of the water off and then let them finish drying in the cage (with or without a dryer). If they use an appropriate dryer, it's not usually an issue.

Dogs commonly hide illness. Sometimes once it’s very obvious to us, it’s a very extreme situation or too late. Always better to be safe than sorry with our babies. I’ve taken my Labrador in for a couple false alarms, but I’d much rather spend $100 for the vet to tell me he’s fine or for a simple procedure, than have an extremely sick or dead dog with a bill in the thousands.
