I think that it goes much deeper than that. The main reason is that far few facts (if any in regards to deities e.g. angels, demons, imps, gods, watchers, jinn etc) have been found (much less deciphered or translated) and so much information is unavailable. I'm aware there is a lot but I don't think it represents anything like what has been lost, overlooked, destroyed (whether intentional or not), hidden, stolen, unrecognized, misinterpreted, or simply not discovered (yet).
