This is actually a very fun experiment to do with water. Take your average tablesalt and heat it to its melting point. the hotter it is after that point, the better the results. then pour it into any container of water. the backyard scientist did a video on this, and it have to say, it got *explosive* results. You'd be surprised by the things you can do with it. It even creates an explosion with shockwaves when put in water. That being homogeneous nucleation. Happening to the relatively cold water (even at room temperature) being rapidly heated but compressed, turning the surrounding water into gas making an explosion :3

Canola oil is used in forging to cool down glowing pieces os steel, so my guess is that the oil cooled the molten salt as soon as it fell into it, making those weird forms
