Wow this goes against every cat logic that I've heard. They mew at each other an incredible amount, supposedly that's something that cats generally reserve for hoomans. And the father actually has fatherly instincts, or he at least doesn't want to bite the kittens face off, that's really something! I had a male and female years back, both fixed, that I'm convinced were married. They were always cuddling and never out of eye shot from each other. Buddy died of FIV, poor pumpkin searched for him for months... she even took up his weird, hoarse meows. To this day I'm not sure if she did that on purpose or if she damaged her vocal chords trying to find him.

@@lauraprosser5084 I took in an abandoned mature mama cat and her three newborn kittens. A few days later, I heard a scream, as loud as a human scream, from.the room they were in! Rushed in to find the mama cat had screamed just because a male cat was sitting on the windowsill outside looking in through the closed window at the little family. Only thing I can figure is that some male cat must have killed a previous litter she had. I've seen naturn documentaries about male felines and male primates killing the offspring of another male, to induce the mothers to go into heat. I suppose that could happen with alley cats. I don't think cats would eat kittens though.

She needed a Caesarean to have him. She was as proud as punch and was a great mom first time round ! My father loved him so much he could not let him go. Toby was a very beautiful and very good dog. Best puppy dog eyes I have ever seen !

My sister's hamster ate &/or mutilated most of the pups (baby hamsters) he had sired. Happened with rabbits also. Both of these males (hamster & rabbit) were aggressive individuals in general. On the other hand, I had a neutered male cat whom seemed as maternal, to an accidental litter of kittens, as the mama cat. I feel it depends on animal(s) at hand & that it's best to be careful
