Jen downsized into a Tiny House after her "American Dream life" did not work out. She got a divorce, sold her large home, and was able to have a really nice Tiny Home designed and built to perfectly fit her taste and needs as a single mom.
In this video Jen takes us on a tour on her house, which she shares with her daughter. She talks about how she is redefining the concept of the American Dream. Even on a single income, she can afford to have a nice house, awhile feeling financially secure. And since it's on wheels, she can move wherever she'd like - even close to her kids when they move.

The tiny house is extremely beautiful and well done. But forget that for a second. The last few things she says in the video really speaks volumes. I moved to a 2 bedroom apartment from a large 4 bed bungalow conversion. My husband passed away 3 weeks after we had moved in. I was terrified and grieving but I had no mortgage to worry about. Savings and a job. I miss him, we were together 37 years, but I thank god everyday that we had made that move. My apartment is beautifully decorated,spacious enough plus some, I can see and smell the sea. I have great outdoor space and the beach at the bottom of the road. I am content.

I'm so sorry for your loss. As a widow I can relate. I'm happy that you have a nice home that you're comfortable in...it makes a big difference! And being near the beach is so amazing...one of many of natures/God gifts. The ocean has always freed my spirit, made me feel alive, and made me feel connected to God and nature. They don’t have full height. She was sitting on the floor and didn’t have lots of room above her head. In the other loft she was on the steps/hall area with closet. Once you go up to floor with bed you can no longer stand up straight.

Jen's 34' x 10' home is 520 sq.ft. and costs $225,000. This builder has some of the best tiny homes I've seen. They're well built and more expensive, but if you can afford it, this would be perfect! To be fair, you can get financing on a tiny house. They essentially purchased a new construction home that, in most major markets, would actually cost them $1 million (if their tiny house were built to scale). That said, in these same major markets, it costs $350K + to even buy a single family home. It's still a steal, at least from my standpoint. To each their own (shrug)

Can’t lie, this has to be one of my top 5 best tiny house on wheels. I love the color schemes. You could always raise the fridge by putting it on top of a sturdy 2 foot pullout storage drawer. That way you have access to the bottom drawer & the fridge.

Actually, she should have done what I always do: buy a fridge with the freezer on the bottom. You open the fridge 30 times a day, but the freezer only a few times. I hate having the freezer at the top. Makes no sense.

But she had a 3,000 sq ft house that she was able to sell having been a wife and mother, so she was able to buy a good tiny home and spend more than most.

This tiny house is a lot bigger than my apartment. When I first heard about tiny houses I always wondered how they manage to get all their stuff in there but now I see they are way more spacious then I thought.

I’m so happy for her & so proud of her, as a fellow Woman/Mother for whom marriage/mortgage/happy family dreams were shattered. I’ve been a single Mum for 17 years & got rid of 98% of what I owned to fit in a “tiny” town house with no storage. Tiny home living is my next big dream. One of my kids has moved out & my “baby” won’t be far behind. I dream of designing my dream tiny home on wheel & have it in a tiny home community like this. The US seems to be more advanced than Australia in this aspect, so I hope we catch up soon & make a lot of us single parents able to be a home owner with so much more freedom! Well done! Beyond the presentation of an endless number of (great!) tiny homes, it would be cool to hear more about water/electricity set up, moving, staying permits, etc to complete the view on tiny house reality (especially for mobile homes). At least in Western Europe it seems it hard to even find any place where you are allowed to put something like this, let alone connect it up with sewage, electricy, water and you would still pay rent or have to buy the ground it's parked on making it more like an e.g. 170k investment into an apartment that you still need to pay rent on. Then if you wanted to move it, you would not move it often and would again be lucky to find a place to put it where you want it to be. How does all that work in the US? Very curious.

there are lots you can rent in the us for a small amount to have it placed there along with hooking it up to water also. and truck stops i’m pretty sure you can park there temporarily or pretty much any public parking lot like at a walmart or something. but most people with these types of homes are either at a trailer park for a monthly fee for the lot or constantly traveling

Sebastian, we have all of those same issues here in the USA. Very few states make it easy to have a tiny home. Lots of bureaucracy and laws preventing homes of a certain (small) size in certain (e.g. the most desirable) areas. Only a handful of states seem to have tiny home communities. We got one in my city very recently and it's only a few homes and all are occupied -- and the developers had to jump thru hoops to make it happen. I agree with you about the "170K investment in a rental". Any lot rental fees in/near a bustling American city are going to reflect that in cost. Not everyone can move out into the extremely rural areas to keep costs down.

There are places that allow ADU (additional dwelling units) to allow people to allow their parents or adult children to live on their property or to rent out. Also, out in the country (farm land) the laws on what you can do with your property is more relaxed so you can have people stay on your land, sometimes trading some work for permission to park the land. Check out Fy Nyth, she did it that way for years.

I don't know where to start looking for a safe and nice place to build a tiny home in the US either. They have "Mobile Home Parks" that's different then a "Tiny Home Community" though.

My tiny house used to be my truck in the summer. I put curtains on both sides. AND WATCHED MOVIES ON MY PHONE BEFORE BED. I DID THIS FOR FOUR MONTHS. IT WAS WHAT I made it that made me happy.

I remember when tiny houses used to be tiny. This house may be tiny compared to the house she came from but it's bigger than a lot of apartments. She cracked me up with her comment about all the "visitors" she gives eye masks to so they can sleep in with the sky light above her bed, though.

Incredibly well designed tiny home. In Colorado 150 -170,000 for a home is a bargain however in the majority of the country that is a pretty big price tag for a tiny house. There needs to be places country wide that allow tiny house communities where you can actually purchase your lot. Until that time it is still challenging to find places to keep your home and very expensive to rent community spaces. i still believe tiny houses are the path to affordable housing a preventing homelessness.

Tiny homes used to be more affordable, even with "high ticket extras." However, when they began to trend as oh-so-darling little weekend getaways and Airbnb's, builders upped their prices. It's a shame, because tiny homes could have been a path for upward mobility. That's no longer the case, unless one can buy a shell and do all of the extra work alone--or with the help of family and friends.

Thank you. Someone else finally said it: "Your life is not inside your house" and that's what people need to realize. I live in a 43' toy hauler with my wife, 5 children, and Doberman. People always ask how we do it and if we are always "on top of each other". No, for the exact reason you said. You don't need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a large house to "fit the family". Get outside with your family and come inside when you need to. I love it and the freedom your are awarded not being tied to traditional house. Thanks for sharing.
