Some of the comments on this issue are quite disturbing Also, I have got into a few online discussions. I have learned that some people have a vey narrow definition of abortion.. They believe all abortions are the 'killing' of a potentially healthy child because the woman doesn't want to be pregnant. They don't understand that abortion is the ending of a pregnancy. So, yes a miscarriage is a spontaneous abortion. Having an ectopic pregnancy taken care of is technically an abortion. The few I chatted with could not seem to understand or accept that laws banning procedures and medications used in an elective abortion are puttiing women at risk of serious infection, being left unable to carry healthy pregnancies in the future, or in some cases death. They could not accept that many woman needing abortions desperately wanted to have the child and were heartbroken that something went wrong and termination was neccessary.

About the heartbeat law: An embryo has a heartbeat from 6 weeks. It can't live outside the womb. If the woman has a miscarriage, at this point, there is no "delivering the baby". The great problem is that the lawmakers have created laws without understanding much at all about pregnancy or about medical care in pregnancy complications. The way things are, doctors are compelled to protect themselves to become prosecuted so keep from being thrown in jail or losing their licence. As a result they delay treatment -- which may include removing an unviable fetus, until the woman is at death's door and even the least informed prosecutor can't deny the necessity for an abortion that is a medical necessity. It can be tricky to gage so sometimes they are unable to pull the woman back from the brink, and she dies, or her reproductive organs become damaged so than she cannot become pregnant again, or she is left with lifelong health problems, oooor she is OK, but it's a risky, risky game. Also, these new laws scare OB-gyns from taking on complicated cases, or they even choose to leace the state. This creates a situaton where women who become pregnant and want to be mother's in many states do not have access to the pre-natal care that ensures a safe pregnany and delivery. The abortion laws as they are currently crafted are not good for mother's to be, because they affect so much more regarding women's heath and obtetrics than just abortion as a means to end a viable pregnancy. The law makers didn't know what they were doing when they made the laws, and were unable to foresee the consequences they would bring, yet here we are. Trump is not going to fix it. The Republicans are not going to fix it. The only way to return to reason and wisdom in medical pregnancy care where physician and mother together decide what is best is to vote blue. You can be against the abortion of healthy fetuses and still recognize that the current abortions laws are not working, and are posing danger to all American women. Becoming pregnant just got much riskier than before, and both mother and infant mortality is increasing as a result.

@chrlpolk then they can sue the hospital, because obviously they're interpretation of the law is incorrect. Um...of course not? Otherwise it wouldn't be a fetus. Are you still confused about what an abortion is? Once it's a baby, once it's viable and can survive without being attached to a host, then they don't abort. Doesn't mean it'll survive the birthing process, but they're two separate issues at two separate stages of pregnancy.

Of course this is sad, as is killing babies before they have a chance in this world. This type of case, I have only heard of 2. One of which was caused by the abortion pill, not "access to abortion". Strangely, there have been numerous rapes, murders and other violent crimes committed by those welcomed in through the open border that Harris and Biden have supported, yet that never gets covered by the left MSM? Nobody seems to cry about the rape and murder of 16 year old girls, they didn't even have a chance to live long enough to get pregnant. Wake up. This is sad, but such stories are told simply to prop up people voting for Harris. It is disgusting.
