I have been diagnosed with tonic clonic seizure epilepsy and honestly her explanation is too true to my experiences. i usually get a weird hazy feeling seconds before and then boom i wake up confused why people are around me. no recollection at all and i have terrible full body and jaw aches with vomiting . it honestly hurts to breathe and be awake, so i just take a sleeping pill to sleep it off as much as possible lol

I think the "why" is important because it leads to the "how" an explanation of something can help establish a pattern and possibly help prevent something from happening and everyone has a different way of coming to the same conclusion

I had a school mate who had epilepsy and it was scary. Most people really aren't aware of their actions after a seizure. Also with the whole pregnancy thing, she literally could have been pregnant before her baby died. Also we can't tell folks how to grieve so if her and her husband decided to comfort each other by being intimate then it's not our place to judge. She didn't get herself pregnant so it must have been a decision the both of them made (hopefully). And lastly, maybe they weren't even trying to get pregnant like you suggested and it just happened. There is a lot of nuance in this case and I am choosing not to judge or place blame on her because if she is in fact innocent then she is being punished for something she absolutely cannot control. I'm also of the opinion that even if she had post partum psychosis I would think that could make her seizures worse which could explain why that particular one was so bizarre. Man idk but let's all just be mindful and RIH to that innocent baby.

I agree, plus the "lack of emotion" could have very well been from the INSANE levels of shock that she was experiencing. like if she genuinely did not do it consciously, just imagine HOW devastating finding out later would be to the point where it'd make sense to be in a state of derealisation for a long time afterwards

I had minor postpartum but, it didn't make me want to harm my child. It was more that I didn't think I would be a good enough mom cuz, I was being told by my parents and sum other ppl I was doing things differently, and I should be doing it a certain way. Also I was happy that I had a baby but, she felt like a stranger at the same time. I had trouble interacting with her cuz, I felt too self conscious for a weird reason, like when u meet a stranger's baby and they hand them over to u. U stand there like what now? It took me a few months to accept that I'm a mom now and I was able to slowly start bonding with her. In which helped me realize this little person is mine and I was able to start seeing her personality, so she wasn't just a random baby anymore. Finally, I was able to get out of the "fog" per sé. I've read about this case when it happened, I also saw the mom and daughter's interview on tv. It's a crazy confusing case for sure. But, I thought it was a cop at the initial scene had opened the microwave and saw the binky still in there, so they had known what happened right away. But, it could have been 1 of the 2 other cases I also know about. Yea, I've heard of mothers putting babies in ovens, dryer, washer, even a dishwasher. I remember a docu series about woman on death row, many mothers and 1 mom put her infant in the freezer. I guess she said she wouldn't stop crying and she didn't know what to do. She said she wanted her to cool off for a minute and so she put her in the freezer. She then sat on the couch and next thing she woke up. She was confused cuz she couldn't find her and then she remembered she was still in the freezer 😰😱. She says she regrets her decision everyday and knows she belongs in prison, hopes her daughter forgives her someday.

I feel soo bad cuz it would be soo sad that she did that without literally knowing or being aware of it , imagine how guilty she would feel as a mom , but also i feel bad that they didn't examine her to see if she really had a seizure or not and she will get away with it , the story is soo complicated to judge because we don't know much😢

But what do you mean people have to pay for lost life even if they didn't mean to do it?? I would agree with you if that was person drinking and/or doing d*ugs and accidentally k*lling someone, then they should pay for that because they CHOSE to be irresponsible and it ended up costing someone their life. But in this situation (if she is innocent) where she literally has a medical condition and it ends up costing someone their life she shouldn't be punished for something she has no control over...she literally blacks out and has no control over her body.

Honestly if true, then she shouldn’t have to pay for this. She’s already paying badly enough with pain, guilt, shame, grief, etc. This wasn’t a case where she did it on purpose or took substances that put her at risk of this situation. It’s kind of gross to say she deserves to pay for one of the worst possible things that can happen to a parent when it was completely out of her control. I’ve done crazy sht during a seizure episode, so I don’t doubt for a moment that this was a complete medical freak accident. I usually agree with you but that’s a really bad take man. I suffer from focal seizures. I know it's coming on when I start to feel a weird vibration in my body from head to toe, and then I get foggy, hot, and nauseous and my vision blurs. I feel like I'm going to pass out , and I want to lie down. They last for maybe a minute or two, and then I feel a bit confused after. Sometimes, they'll come for a few weeks straight, then disappear for a couple months. The only thing that scares me is that I work as a sous chef, and it happens while I'm at work .

I literally had a focal seizure while watching this video.... I'm still kinda getting back to "normal" :) It's so very real but almost sounds like something made up to some😅 It's really different for each individual though.... For me I completely black out for the first few seconds with my whole body and all my senses going numb but I'm most of the time aware of my surroundings on some degree. Sometimes a sharp pain in my head follows while I recover from the initial seizure. It feels so weird and sometimes it also feels like everything is a deja vu. Sometimes I get seizures while being asleep too, my family members would tell me about the episodes and it feels like a deja vu to me

As far as I'm concerned it was a horrible terrible accident. Intention matters. That's what most civilized countries have decided for their justice systems. We've seen countless cases of ruthless killers, how they behave and how they talk. She's not that. And yet they threw the book at her for essentially having a debilitating medical condition. You can't tell me that's not discrimination. Whether it was religious, economic class, medical or all of the above, that case stinks of it. I can't accept the nth room's guys, miryang case and other people responsible for untold tragedies and intentional harming of people getting nothing sentences, but a mother who lost a child due to her medical condition getting horribly misrepresented and sent in for life. This is justice? For who exactly? RIP to little Mirabelle, it was a horrible thing to happen, but this woman needs help, not to be put away with criminals.
@elazybelleorr2472
@elazybelleorr2472 Ай бұрын
Intention and context is important especially in court because its going to be used to decide sentencing, ie. How long and under what conditions will you be serving your time. Is this willful malicious murder or are you someone who under distress and not thinking in your right mind commited a horrific act without your knowledge, in this case specifically, either way shes going to jail but it'll be used to determine for how long, will she be afforded parole after a certain time spent etc. And what specific charges she'll get murder or manslaughter, 1st or 2nd degree etc. because there are differences under the law. Its like the difference between someone who gets off on hunting people down to tourture them, and a fight between two young adults that escalates until one of them has been hit badly that ends in death. One of them has every intention to cause harm, while the other had no intention and didnt even realize during the event that things would turn out that way. Or like your car analogy seeing on coming traffic and switching lanes to play chicken, or pulling out of a parking lot with a blind spot and someone full t-bones your drivers side of the car injuring someone. The intention matters in these instances to determine the full scope of how serious the crime is and it goes towards whether or not they can be rehabilitated and integrated back into society, again one cannot be while the other can and can be expected not to cause more harm. Both will be hit with probably 25 to life or a hefty sentence but one will be afforded parole after time spent like 15-20 yrs while the other won't and will never be released, ( just an example ofc.) My personal opinion is it depends on the context and the degree of harm caused whether the intent matters or not. Or it matters to an extent, yes intentions can shed some light and clarity on how you ended up doing something but the actions are what they are regardless and should be acknowledged as such. But the law is a different matter entirely.

Radiation does not stop “burning” if cooled. It still causes reactivity in surrounding tissues. It is a burn type that is not physical like Napalm, or white phosphorus. Radiation keeps burning even if cool to the touch. If it is an appendage you would need amputation. If it is Thoracic or ventral. Sadly it is not treatable. The affected bones, muscles, organs, etc would need to be removed along with tissue connected to it. Where Napalm and white phosphorus burns can be treated by removing the damaged tissue. Radiation requires removing adjacent tissue as well.

36:02 I’m Hmong and it all depends on what your religion and if you still follow our tradition to view having seizures/epilepsy as spirits taking over your body. One of my older brothers has epilepsy and we were still practicing our old tradition/religion, which was Shamanism. Some people that’s still practicing our old tradition believe that in order to “get rid of” having seizures/epilepsy is for you to get rid of the spirit(s)/entities that the patient might be seeing. When practicing the shaman ritual to “get rid of the spirit(s)/entities”, the shaman goes and talk with the spirit(s) to make a deal in the spiritual realm. My parents also believed that the reason my brother has epilepsy was because of the spirit(s) that kept bothering him, so we converted to Christianity. My parents are not together so my mom’s religion is Christianity but by dad followed and practiced our old tradition/religion. Even though my mom is a Christian, she stills believe in that spiritual theory, as she doesn’t like it when we say stuff or have even thoughts of anything that isn’t “holy”. She thinks that all the negative energy is going to trigger his epilepsy. Although my mom forced us to convert to Christianity, my brother still has epilepsy. That’s why I personally don’t believe in any of those things as I’m an atheist and leave it to the professionals do their jobs. I’d say that Stephanie did a pretty good job explaining the cultural context.

Idk about the microwave used in this case, and I'm sure they checked in the investigation how likely the possibilities are and what type of microwave it is, how it works etc. But the microwave I have is just a single button press to activate, which ever number you press will be automatically started with a single press of a button. 1- 9, and its in minutes. For 5 minutes all I have to do is press 5 with the door shut and it starts by itself. Again I'm sure they checked for that but not all microwaves are pressing multiple buttons minimum for it to even start a 5 min cycle, it is possible with just one depending on your microwave.

Hazy phase after seizure is common. I think almost everyone who deal with it also undergo hazy phase right after. For me, it takes 30 mins to an hour to completely sober up. Yeah sober up, like I was in a drunk state and waiting for my brain & my body return to work normally. But I've never, GOD FORBID, completely lost my memory during seizure. Never passed out. Black out for few seconds yes, but fortunately never passed out. Somehow part of my brain still clings into my memory although it's hazy and hard to control my body. My condition is complex with different kind of triggers. High fever, autoimmune disease, and something wrong with my right brain called Hypoplasia a vertebralis also I have had history of absence seizures since I was a baby to elementary school age. Stephanie is on point when she said one patient can have multiple type of seizure during their life. To control my condition I rely heavily on anti-seizure med I have to consume every single day even when no symptoms appear for weeks - months. About the aftermath after seizure + hazy phase, when my senses coming back I usually notice my body is sore. It feels like I just done marathon. My body still feel stiff especially on my joints and neck area. Still trying to compose my breathing. And vertigo, migraine, vestibular issues for few days. Seizure lasts for seconds - mins but the pain all over my body lasts much more longer.

Doesn't help that i live with my dad and he likes to tell me its all in my head, and to just push through it. I'm not able to work because of how often they have been happening lately. i once had a seizure in my sleep, I'm lucky i didn't die because of it, but i went almost a full 24hrs completely unaware of who anyone was, and who i was. it was scary for my family, everything came back. I once had a seizure at work and apparently i tried to do the closing routine before my service dog got my mangers attention, and they sat me down and called my mom to come and get me. I need to start medication, but i can't since i'm not able to see the doctor, i can't see a doctor since i live with my dad and with his insurance im only covered for vision and dental. im not able to get insurance cause im not able to work. not able to work because of how bad my seizures have gotten i've had like 11 since august. thats not normal for me. its been happening since i was 13 im 23 now. it hasn't been this bad since the start.

it's hard to really answer that question of yours because there are so many reasons for individual ppl that might kill someone. especially the ones that genuinely fear for their life.or in this one, a whole epilepsy that not all people are familiar with at all ! if it's people that might kill because of assault of many years and see no other way out, i can understand THAT. anything else, like the act of killing itself or even for money etc, they deserve a life sentence immediately. life for a life after all, sry. this case is so scary in the way that she basically blacks out a lot through her life and the sister dying from it.. that's just so heartbreaking. we might jump on conclusions about it because people can be so ignorant to stuff we dont experience ourselves but i think she was telling the truth and that she really didn't mean it :/ even if it's a bit iffy at parts,, it's hard to tell for outsiders after all. especially if seizures are different for people too.

41:50 My family lost our baby brother bcuz our grandparents and relatives believed in trad med and didnt let him get proper treatment in a hospital, he passed away 2 weeks after birth. I've seen so many of my older family members and their kids pass due to this and as someone who is studying to be a doctor, it angers me. If your belief is hurting you or your lived ones then it is NOT worth following. One issue with ppl believing in trad med is that they hate western medicine and don't get proper treatments and overlook health issues until it is too late, i think if you believe in both and know when to draw the line. Like let's say if someone had cancer but they don't get treatment in a hospital and do herbs and shit and end up dying? Then it's wrong ryt... I just can't trust ppl who believe SOLELY on trad med bcuz I come from a country where "alternative medicine"(trad med) is pretty popular and it causes a lot of deaths bcuz ppl dont believe in doctors(think they are making things up for money). This has become quite a big issue as people with no knowledge on traditional medicine or a medical degree start treating patients and just make shit up and naive ppl believe them and there's a growing distrust in actual doctors due to this.

The one thing I will say about the culture of medicine is that it's shocking to me how very country-specific, I hate to say this but Caucasian countries are the reason why so many people of colour die or get unjust treatment bc nothing is taken with a cultural lens bc most Caucasian still view culture as being backwards and there is always this Culture vs Science debate when in fact these things are very easy for us in majority non-White countries. In my country (South Africa) we use what we call a holistic approach to all our patients every individual according to guidelines as diagnosed with Biopsycho-Social evidence, meaning biologically we treat with science and medical means by psychologically will the patient be adherent to medication or even understand why they should be taking medication in their socioeconomic environment. Because at the end of the day, we do not go home with the patient if the patient says they are very spiritual. They came bc their physical symptoms were bad FIRST thing we ask is what traditional herbs/medicine were taking... bc 1. they could interact with the medicine we gave them but 2. Most likely, some of their symptoms could skew your diagnosis as some of the symptoms and signs were a reaction due to the traditional elements. TLDR; I feel bad for this woman and her family bc most likely if she weren't living in the USA, she would NOT have been sentenced to time for murder in the first degree because medically-culturally there is so much evidence against intention. The act would be convicted and punished for, and the degree of time served would be taken into account, BUT giving her 25 to life is ludicrous to me.

I wondered how possible for that to happen to this woman but at 50:22 I remembered It's not only body stiffened, shake, eye roll back, falling ( if not laying down before)and so on. There are times they become disoriented doing random stuff, not answering when you call them, talking to you of the weirdest stuff/ or question (s), eye focus wide open and so on. Sometimes they fall asleep after , or collapse, laugh, look dazed and come out of it with no memory of what they do. So it is possible ( not the same for everyone).
