If you want an English version for this... ummm hahha
I guess I'll take the English version. Basically in the past, an ancient Chinese myth believed that every year a monster named "年" would wake up from its hibernation and terrorize citizens and villages at night . The residents discovered that its scared of the color red, bright lights and loud noises, so they lit up bamboos, supposedly (as stated above) which slowly evolved to become firecrackers in modern times. So that's why we celebrate Chinese New Year with firecrackers and big red words (yikes what's 春聯 in English?) 😂
Logan mama 能說到哪麼標準 算很厲害, 謝謝兩位給了我美好回憶 11月30日晚上9:51 桃園機場:接機大廳

Danny Vaden, if we translate it literally from Chinese to English, it is Lunar New Year. I was surprised to hear Chinese New Year when I came to the US 20 years ago for my master degree. Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese all celebrate Lunar New Year, not just Chinese. Personally I prefer to call it Lunar New Year over Chinese New Year.

English is probably becoming an important language in Taiwan soon. Your family should come and help this movement of making Taiwan more open just like Singapore.
