I used to work for Lifetouch and I had a parent who HATED every picture I took. During the shoot, they said, "Cant you take a good picture?!" and I said, "I just take the photo, you made the kid."

Her hair has a natural red tinge and the photos weren't edited yet. In the edited photos, the daughter's hair looks exactly as it does in real life. The fuzziness is because the camera focused on her face, not her hands. It was a "vignette" that may or may not have been successful. But, when doing a shoot, not every pose/photo looks perfect. That's why the photographer did so many.

Anyone who shoots professionally knows that there is almost never any photo that doesn't need to be adjusted. Add to that the matter of immaturity, personal taste and irrational vanity and narcissism and you have a perfect storm for conflicts of taste. This is why I NEVER work for others ever. I create work and sell them directly.

The blur in front of the subject is absolutely a desired effect for artistic photography. The pictures are gorgeous IMHO, easy to work out the red by duplicating the layer, lowering the saturation then erasing the lowered saturation layer from the rest of the photo. Love those photos.

Photographers aren’t magicians. The camera shows what is there. The pictures look great to me. They just didn’t like her hair color. But, not a reason to stop payment. That was a simple fix by just editing the photo.

The blurred effect looked good. It's a perspective and layering effect. Give the idea you're looking at the subject outside at a glance through some trees. I don't see the complaint considering it's just one of many and that picture is a little more unique.

I've been a professional photographer for over 25 years. There is nothing glaringly bad about these photos. I thought they were going to be terrible based on what the mother was claiming but when they finally showed the photos I realized that Mom was just insane.

I have done senior portraits for many years. Two observations. One if someone writes you a bad check, as this essentially is, you take it to law enforcement since doing so is committing a fraud. In our jurisdiction the Sheriff will handle it with no hassles on your part. 2) The photographer doesn't need clients like this. They are nasty, mean and hard to deal with. Too many people are happy with what you do for you to have to deal with fools like that.

When I was in high school all the guys had a choice of 3 tuxedo jackets and shirts and ties to put on( which ever fit) for the picture, then you took it off and the next guy put it on , the girls had a choice of 3 formal dresses that they slipped on and when done the next girl put it on.

It depends. At many schools, the ones that are contracted by the school for the yearbook have a more standard/uniform look like you described. However, parents also hire photographers to do photoshoots for upcoming proms, graduations and such. I have been out of high a long time, and my parents paid for a photoshoot when I graduated from high school. Many of my cousins’ parents did too. Have you seen the graduation pictures that have big numbers of the graduation year as props?
