In July 2016, MoMA PS1 Director Klaus Biesenbach invited artist Katharina Grosse to transform a decaying former military building at Fort Tilden, Queens, into a monumental, sublime artwork using a specialized technique to spray brightly colored paint directly onto the structure. Grosse’s approach highlights the potential of painting as a medium, and encapsulates the stark beauty of this manmade structure and its natural surroundings. Learn more: bit.ly/29aqHvs

Amazing project. I really liked Katharina's comments about color and why she chose the colors she used.

Congratulations Katharina Grosse! Beautiful project. Reminds me of the 70s conceptual artist Gordon Matta Clark who worked with abandoned buildings.

I think it's great to offer to citizens or visitors of certain place / space, an opportunity of construct a different meaning of the place they are at or propose a different way to appropiate an old building, for example, recover it and create a new meaning of it, the interaction will change sooner or later, in a good and positive way I hope but I am wondering if at the opening of the "new" abandoned beach house the attendants knew the goal of the project, why the artist did that, why she painted with this warm colors or why did she transform the old place into a new one and why it's important for the people who will interact, use or appropiate this place in some way.

Difficult to comment when you can not experience the artwork in it's original form, but I think it has been approached as an element in a painting when it may have been of more use to work with it as a sculptural form and used the dynamic of the inner and outer aspect of the building to decide the colour and movement in relation to the landscape and human viewer.Well done to Katharina Grosse I enjoyed what she did with the work.

I seems to me, that the process of creating is just as important as the final "work"
