Greg, you remind me on one of my grandsons explaining something with which I'm not totally familiar, lots of information and excitement coming quickly. If I didn't have some knowledge of post processing, I would be lost, this is not for the beginning drone user. Quite a complete explanation of what a normal user would experience when they first obtained one, I just wish you had time to capture more footage with and without the lens to show us. The result of using this lens combination produces quite an amazing result out of such a small camera, I'm impressed. Have a very Merry Christmas.

Thank you, Johnny. I tried to make it as simple as possible but you're right, this is usually something that more advanced videographers will use. I will be going out to get more footage as soon as the rain stops. We only get a few days of rain each year so we are grateful when they happen. We might even get a little snow later on this week so the footage should be extra good! Have a Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the video. Mine just landed - pretty surprised about the individual cases for the ND Filters. Why not just make one case for all the filters like PolarPro? More stuff to lose halfway up a mountainside...

Greg - on your recommendation, I got the Moment anamorphic lens and the ND filter set. Enjoying the wider FOV. Thanks for the step-by-step instructions on installing the lens, along with the tips on how to "de-squeeze" the footage. A couple of questions: 1. Have you had any issues with the image being out of focus on the left and/or right side of the image? 2. Have you had issues with the front props showing up sometimes in the upper corners? 3. Would you consider doing a follow-up video showing your preferred camera settings for the factory lens and the anamorphic lens? thanks!
@PilotInstitute4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dna BnL, lots of great questions. 1- I have not seen any issues with a blur on the edges. Depending on how you de-squeeze the footage, you may get that. If you stretch the footage horizontally, you will likely get a blur but if you squeeze it vertically, you shouldn't, because all the pixels were recorded. 2- I have not seen any props in the image yet. Have you? 3- I did a follow up video that you can watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKOznIqHich-hNk I don't necessarily talk about the settings specifically since I more or less kept them the same in both footage. I like to shoot in D Log and then apply a LUT afterwards.
@5670and4 жыл бұрын
@@PilotInstitute Thanks for the responses, Greg! 1. Turns out the "blur" you get with anamorphic lenses (depending on the settings you use) is the "bokeh" effect. Here's a link: www.provideocoalition.com/three-lenses-a-look-at-bokeh-depth-of-field-and-geometry/. 2. I have had the props show up in the frame when using the anamorphic lens. It's usually in windy conditions, or when the drone has to make more aggressive maneuvers. 3. I'll check out the follow-up Litchi video. Thanks! Darren (DnA BnL)

The foam in the back is very dense, I had to push it with my fingers several times before I could clip it in the back. Try that and see if it helps.

Greg, awesome detailed video. Can you please do a similar video with the Mavic Air 2 anamorphic lens, and show the Final Cut Pro de-squeezing process? Thanks.
@PilotInstitute4 жыл бұрын
Alan, I didn't even know they had one for the Mavic Air 2! The de-squeeze process should be the same though, unless the ratio for compression is different. Have you tried this method with it yet?
@alangray50954 жыл бұрын
@@PilotInstitute Thanks for your reply. It's a recently released item that I just got from Freewell. It says the de-squeeze factor is 1.15. So I followed your method above (you did 1 divided by 1.33, so I did 1 divided by 1.15) and I get 86.96. So I set the Y axis to that. But my stature (height) in the video still looks a bit "long" or "tall" to me. I have seen other videos do the de-squeezing with this new lens on Premier Pro, but no videos that show it on Final Cut, which I use. Maybe my math is correct and I just need to get used to the look of the video . Anyway, I guess this can give you a new video topic - "How to De-Squeeze the MA2 Anamorphic Lens on FCPX!"

Great video but seems to not be worth the hassle and cost. I've seen a number of reviews on the Moment and gimbal issue was a big deal, from attaching the lens, the calibration, gimbal dropping and shuttering during the flight. Freewell has a great anamorphic lens for $40 bucks but its for the Mavic Air 2. I emailed them to see if there were plans to produce a lens for the Pro 2 and Zoom, but advised there was not, due to weight issues.
@gregreverdiau2464 жыл бұрын
It's cool to use but I indeed think about twice before using it because it is just time consuming and the calibration process each time is a pain in the butt.
@trezndawg42404 жыл бұрын
@@gregreverdiau246 especially @$199+ for the lens. If the investment was less than $100 bucks it would be worth all the trouble. By the time you get it installed the weather would have changed or you will be changing the battery before you got off the ground.

I am somewhat confused as to how well this lens matches with the mavic 2 zoom. On the web there is a mix of places where it is promoted as a lens for the pro only as compared to an universal product and usable for the zoom as well.

Flo Flo i think it was originally designed only for the Pro but they eventually came up with a version for the zoom. Check their website to make sure of the options.

@@PilotInstitute It wasn't overly windy but yes, I guess you could say there was a breeze. Just had another fly now and it handled really well. It's a delicate piece of gear that will take punters a few attempts to get right. I almost requested a refund but I've stuck with it, and I'm glad I did.

It’s a a gimbal over loader !! I bought one and sent it back you cannot calibrate the gimbal properly. My gimbal calibration only went to 40 % the gimbal stops when the gimbal calibrates when it goes to the look down position. Then the gimbal motors over heat and cannot pull the heavy lens up so your back to square one. What a waste of money and time I could be flying instead and cut it down in post. Good luck if you buy one.
