Combat knife has low stagger you can offset it by using special. It deals minimal damage but enemies that take some damge are on the cusp of total stagger. It is the reason why gunners tend to turn toward you after just a few hits. A good combination is Light-Blockpush-Blockattack-Special-Light (Light after special is always Strikedown for extra damage from back), this sets them completely off balance, and allows you to put in the first light (or heavy from Shroud if you have it) for the juicy backstab damage. At the same time since they will be off balance they will be unable to turn, and you can continue smacking them from behind. Also against maulers when I have to fight them there is a strange combo that works great against them but is a bit uncomfortable since you have to basically hug them. You can dodge their attack and turn quickly by 180° around them then Pushattack-Special-Heavy-Heavy-PushAttack-Light and they will die of bleed if you have Lacerate.

you should try special light special light combo, you can do some very fast dps with it taking down big elites

Yeah I should. My special button is the middle mouse so it's a bit awkward to spam special light fast. :(
