I wanted to add a small comment. There are other issues I just couldn’t touch on, like the twitter bullying accusations within the group that I didn’t feel comfortable touching on as there is no proof, we don’t know the whole story, some of the “proof” is just reaching and so on. So touching on those topics was something I was not comfortable with. But I do want to let you guys know I am aware there are some things I didn’t talk about but as I say at the end, I hope I touched on the most important stuff.

Momoland is an easy group to dig at. They're from a small incompetent company with a small fandom. They don't really have any big platforms to defend themselves on and the ones they do have (their personal platform) they aren't allowed to use to defend themselves. This happened in 2018/19 and is happening again now with the whole bullying scandal. Regardless if there is any merit to those accusations, the "proof" being brought up are distorted and cherry picked. They get stuff pinned on them that aren't even true most of the time. Momoland is one of the most unlucky group in kpop because their music isn't appreciated but their scandals and misfortunes are always highlighted. It kinda reminds me of Ladies Code and I hate that for them. At this point I just want MLD to give them their first full album (because that's what's they deserve after years of sololy funding that company) and disband them. The girls are better off separate and not part of this weird sideshow in the kpop community. They deserve peace and a company that actually cares and manages them correctly.

A quick note on the homophobia accusations towards Nancy: being straight=\=being homophobic. It's clear she said nothing bashing LGBTQ members and only expressed her own sexuality. The way i see it, this is pop music, and musical ideas are usually not unique but recurring and there are a lot of sound-alikes, it's completely normal, and the order of business. In order to be popular, the music must walk that fine line between familiarity and novelty. Most Kpop is a rehash of 90s US and Euro pop, mixed with some amalgamation of trendy gender tropes. When there are more than a couple sound-alikes or ideas being reused, it forms a new sub-genre. A lot of similar sounding things are purely down to production libraries such as MIDI snippets and samples which are specifically made and sold to producers to be used in music, completely above water. Also any wonder when Shinsadong Tiger's music sounds similar to music he had written before? You cannot plagiarise yourself, it's not a thing.

It freaking drives me insane that Jimin’s voice cracks and the scandal is “Momoland giggles” meanwhile Momo from Twice has a similar vocal mishap and everyone screams “she’s not talented she should be fired blah blah blah”. And also we need to recognize that not only are all musicians using the same 12 notes, but we’re all on Splice these days too. I just downloaded a pack that had part of Ateez’s Hala Hala AND part of Hwasa’s Maria. I can legally release basically the instrumental of Girl Front by Odd Eye Circle because the beats/synth/bass are all up on Splice.

yeah thats just not true. a lot of ppl especially blinks use that one clip of when his in ear monitor wasn't working so he couldn't hear himself and his voice cracks to say that he has absolutely no talent. literally all they use is the same clip over and over again to try and ig "prove" he can't sing?? when it comes to plagiarism in music I think its a tricky topic. just bc someone comes up with a sequence that sounds similar to someone else's does not necessarily mean they copied it. there are only so many notes, eventually all music is gonna sound plagiarised!
@IchiSwagger3 жыл бұрын
@@gen7576 from where I’m at, the “outrage” over Momo was much more pronounced than any criticism of Jimin. Both situations were ridiculous as both of them are insanely talented. It’s not just Twice and BTS, boy groups are much more likely to have criticisms bounce right off of them while girl groups are judged more intensely, especially in regards to their “public persona”.

The whole bowing video I also think it's ridiculous because from the looks of it they were in heels and were trying to go down the stairs. It's not easy to go down stairs in heels while bowing, it would be incredibly easy for their weight to shift too much and fall, even going down stairs in flat shows you can fall if you don't pay attention.

This was so informative. I’m an army and I remember back when army attacked them hard. I didn’t cuz I just don’t engage in hate like that, but I must admit that I did think badly of the girls personally. Then I saw the clip and was like well isn’t this being blown out of proportion? Also, clips like these are never good. One should see what comes before and after because it’s very easy to misinterpret something if you just see one instant. I also recall seeing their comeback stages for I’m So Hot and thinking well isn’t this the exact same song over and over? I’m not blaming them, they have no control. I always thought the company was doing them wrong in that aspect. I think the exact same of Izone for that matter. All their songs follow the exact same formula. Again, not their doing, it’s the company. I’m not Korean, so this isn’t my place, but the only way these idols can be helped is with legislation. Contracts are law between the parts, but legislation can control how far these contracts can go. So if Koreans want to help, it’s not the companies they need to convince, it’s their legislators.

The eating disorder "joke" is more then that. She is literally talking about her own issues with eating and makes the joke. She makes the joke to make herself feel more comfortable. Instead o showing Nancy support for her obvious issues with eating, people attacked her for expressing herself in a joking way. Newsflash, people joke about their own trauma and issues to make it easier for themselves. And now, Nancy weight seesaws like crazy, a clear indicator of an eating disorder, or at least crash dieting. I cannot and will not diagnose her, but I think the obvious signs are there. And once again, instead of supporting her, people call her mean names and make fun of her weight gain.
@amethyst0343 жыл бұрын
Exactly, not to say the joke wasn't inappropriate but do people not realise she's literally implying her disordered eating and thoughts. In the past she's stated she has done very low calorie diets, obviously I'm not accusing her of an eating disorder but her joke may literally imply she has a relation to the bulimic character she plays. Which is concerning but people used this to fatshame her instead.

Sort of unrelated/not 100% related to momoland alone but do people really think that a group is just the members? Like its so bizzare when I see someone critique a group and the stans just immediately defend the members. Yes the members are obviously a huge part of the group but they are not the group themselves. They are not the ones writing the songs, directing the videos, giving line distribution, managing events(unless it has been specified). So yea the company they come from, the managers, the video directors etc are just as much part of the group as the members are. When I critique a group I refer to more than just the members of it. If there's something offensive in a groups music/music video it is in THEIR music, the album has THEIR name stamped on it so yes the group is the problem not always the members.

Maybe it is cruel to say, but most idols in Korea are "puppets" of their companies. They cannot do anything without companies' approval, and they are still the one who is being attacked. I’m a show choir director, and I love learning / teaching little snidbits of Momoland dances (usually their choruses). They have very “user friendly” dancing which is fun yet fairly easy to learn, and I don’t think that gets enough recognition. I feel many groups are moving towards dancing that is no longer accessible to non-professional dancers. And it looks great when these professionals do it, but it’s also not fun to try and learn at home unlike Momoland where I could sit in front of a mirror all day and practice dancing.

Literally the members who didn't get through Finding Momoland, were never would have suited the group anyway. Imagine if Shinsia was in the group. They are definitely a case that I think we will find more out once they Disband properly. I don't see any solo potential from them but I do worry what is going to happen cause I'm unsure how they do now with sales etc. I was surprised with wrapped up in plastic even coming out. And this adds to my conclusion idol groups are not music industry but gamble business during a tournament. A company decides to play this game, so they choose a bunch of cute boys or girls who aspire to build a music career. They become employees with crappy contracts, earning nothing if not paying themselves to the Agency,, receive a catchy song in exchange made by other employees, girls are dressed in sexy outfits to exploit their sex appeal, and they are sent to any place where a stage can be planted, even if it's a Walmart. If these boys and girls catch the eye of the public the companies can start sucking money from fan's wallets instead so they begin also to gain some real cash, if they do not, they eventually leave disgusted or get disbanded, after they have paid their production debts. The Bank never loses.
