The Vertical Access Line (VAL) is a vertical line that intersects the bowlers positive access point (PAP) and the horizontal mid line of the grip. A line drawn from the PIN to the PAP creates a degree angle as it intersects the VAL. These angles are normally from 20-70 degrees in the dual angle layout system. The "smaller" the VAL angle in the drilling layout the shorter/quicker the hook zone and the sharper the motion created down lane. So, a "small VAL" (20-30 deg) should give a high track player some extra "pop" (hook) down lane to compensate for their low axis tilt. This can help eliminate some of the plaque 10's,
