Moms Explain: Welcome to our new series where we will explain some of life's toughest, awkward, embarrassing, taboo questions, to our inquisitive but mature daughter.
We are Ebony and Denise, a two-mom family with three kids; Olivia, Jayden & Lucas. Denise and I have been together for 12 years and married for 8 years. We love recording family-friendly videos and sharing our lives with the world.
We hope to inspire, inform and connect with people who can relate to our story and might consider sharing their own story of “coming out.” Coming out is a journey of self-acceptance, and we hope to inspire the courage in our viewers to be authentically who they are. We would like for our viewers to realize that the life they envision living is in fact possible. That having a partner, career, and family is possible in spite of being stigmatized by society.

Thank you though for telling people who are naive about what being gay is. Moms Explain: Being Puerto Rican I would love for mama to let Olivia (and in the future Jayden and Lucas) know about Puerto Rico as many schools in the US do not teach about our island. It'll be nice for her to know about the culture and the food from there. 🇵🇷 Questions could be like: What does it mean to be Puerto Rican? Especially here in America How Puerto Ricans come in different shapes, colors, and sizes Let her know about certain traditions we might have The different privilages we dont have in the island (although we have the same President as the president of the Mainland US, we do not get to vote for our President. Which when hurricane Maria came, Trump did nothing but throw paper towels) How we are slowly growing in Hollywood with people like Bad Bunny, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Ozuna, Bruno Mars, Victoria Justice, etc... Etc... I said this topic as when I was growing up I was always jealous of mainland Americans and didn't feel comfortable with myself as I was Hispanic, but as I moved to the US I fully got to embrace myself and my culture through my parents support letting me know every culture has it's beautiful traditions.

You guys are awesome and an inspiration to me and my wife. We have two daughters two and four. When they start physically going to school, I'm concerned about the kids that only think it's normal to have a dad and mom. Does Olivia get teased? We are in Jersey and we are hoping that people in this area will be accepting but you know how that goes. Also, how does it work with other parents? It's really hard for us to make friends with other parents because the husbands sometimes act weird and we don't have any lesbian friends. Also - I’m transgender female to male, and the way I explain that to kids is I’m a boy, but when I was born and growing up people thought I was a girl. Then I took medicine to change my body to make me look more like the other boys and make me feel more comfortable. 😊

Has Olivia experienced any negitivity or do you talk to her about it? My daughter hasn't thank God. So far positivity. A week ago her teacher gave her an option to read a book about a dad or another topic and I cringed alittle. I also later told her if she wanted to pick the dad book it was ok. She plays toys with a mom n dad... She also watches shows with a mom and dad I can tell she likes that type of role model type houses.

What if your kids are sad because they don't have a dad? I know you have explained they have a donor and all that. But what if they get older and they wish they had a dad? Not a gpa, Uncle, or father figure. An actual dad. How are you going to explain why they don't get to experience that? I know this is a sensitive topic so I hope it's ok to bring up. But I'm just curious how you plan to deal with this or if you've thought about it. The kids might feel like they've missed out on that and wish they had a dad. How would you guys explain that to them past what you've already told them in regards to the donor?

I'm worried about how I will tell my nephews I'm transgender. I transitioned when the oldest was a baby and now they're nearly 5 and 2 and a half. They only know me as their uncle. But then they could see old pictures or hear something at any point and I don't want it to be some big secret. I'm worried I'll make them more confused or that they won't believe me, or they'll say/ask uncomfortable things. Then their parents might be mad at me for brining it up
