Hammock / Fishnet string figure - Step by step tutorial

This is my second hammock string video tutorial. This one is sometimes called the Fishnet. I go through it step by step very slowly from the user's point of view, so you can follow along. It's easy once you get the hang of it, so don't give up. Keep trying if you can't get it. If you have trouble, pause the video and really look carefully at which strings I am using.

TO ANYONE WHO GETS TANGLED WHEN DROPPING THE THUMB : In the first step (aka the set-up step), when you make a cross the centre, look carefully which side of the string is on top of the cross. If the LEFT side of the string is on top of the cross, you should use your RIGHT middle finger to proceed the next step. Similarly, if the RIGHT side of the string is on top, you should use your LEFT middle finger to proceed. I basically reminded myself "Never The Same Side" every time I started the hammock. When i was in fifth grade, string tricks became popular out of nowhere and everyone had one of these wrapped around their wrists like a bracelet at all times so they could do this stuff and i swear this was one of the only tricks i could do

This is awesome. I am an organist, so I understand the finger-control. And executing these steps rapidly is a practiced skill. Very cool! I remember doing Cat's Cradle a little bit in my childhood. But these exercises are really useful, and definitely entertaining. I love it!

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THAT SAY THEY CANT DO IT!!!: Watch in the beginning, the crossing of the strings the left one is on top of the right one, you are probably doing the right on top of the left, just by a tiny thing the whole thing ca be wrong, watch carefully what she does and you’ll have it right!! My grandma born in 1911 taught me as a child this game. She had a name for each figure (the cradle, the rail, the fish, the mirror, the bed). I could not imagine that it could be know outside of Europe.

I didn't succeed at the beginning. The side you turn the string is very important. If you don't turn it the right side at the 1st step, you can not go further or you must invert left and right. Once I understood that, I learned it in 3 minutes

+Steve McDog You must be turning it the wrong way when you are making the 'X' at the beginning. Turn the string away from your body instead of towards it. Then drop the thumbs. Hope this helped!

when you are flipping the string at the start make sure you flip it away from you to make the x
