This is truly a remarkable discovery finding the drama here as I had first heard it on radio 4 when first broadcast and had recorded the whole series on to cassette tape but subsequently lost and never found. Great Discovery, thank you all concerned.

This is the first episode from the BBC 4 Radio program "Vivat Rex" as given through 26 episodes in 1977. Further episodes traced the Royal family through more than two centuries in the plays of Marlowe, Shakespeare, and other Elizabethans. In the US (outside the good graces of the Beeb), it's been published as an audio book in two volumes, priced at about $28 each. Some have noted that this production doesn't follow the text found in published editions, but has been edited down. I've had the pleasure of twice seeing this play, and it was different each time. Marlowe, like Shakespeare is customarily produced from a deeply redacted text. Complete canonical texts of either author are rarely, if ever, performed. Modern audiences generally lack the stamina or appetite for 3 to 4 hour plays. As a radio play, this production suffered further cuts and the addition of narration to meet the medium's production requirements.

+Kellin Harris It's only the description that's inaccurate, as this is not "Edward II". This recording is the BBC radio play "Vivat Rex", which was a two-part "dramatic chronicle" made using the works of Shakespeare, Marlowe, and their contemporaries.
