Sad to see this and the complete demise of the English cotton industry. I worked at Monarch in 1973 as a ring spinner for a short time. Hard work, noisy and hard shifts but real work unlike the service sector country we have become.

I had so much fun in and around this mill hundreds of memories!! One memory the top floor was a paintball floor we used to go up the Stepps at the side rusty dangerous falling apart Stepps but we was young so we didn't care, we collect all the gas canisters that the youth of today would do balloons with!! We had battels with them chucking them at each other. You was out when you was on the floor screaming in pain 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 mental the shit I've seen!! I will give you one more memory me and my friend on the roof of the entrance gate spitting on cars as they drove in 🤦♂️ we spat on the windscreen of a ford Sierra!! The guy who owned the car we all knew he was a nutter called Andy if I remember right, he jumped out climbed the side of the building about 15-20 feet like spiderman grabbed my friend by the ankle yanked him off the roof like a rag doll we was about 11-12!! He then climbed down and proceeds to smack the living shite out of him. The good old days the reason us nearly 40 year olds have respect 😂😂😂😂😂 good times ❤
