All employees of the NHS are 99.9% good, caring individuals who will give their all to help those in need, couple that with someone who is obviously an academic in his 'field' too and you have a winner! Dr John Campbell is a perfect example of this! *@pcuimac* how’s gold holding up vs the stock market? Not so foolish all the sudden. Appreciating the value-preservation ability of commodities doesn’t make someone a goldbug. A century ago you could buy a nice suit for 1oz of gold. Today you can still buy a nice suit for 1oz of gold. That’s a fact that causes objective people to consider gold as unusually good at value-preservation. I agree based on the idea that health care workers are getting sicker because of the "large amounts of the virus" they are being exposed to. Well, then it is reasonable that if you can reduce the amount you are exposed to, your body stands a better chance of fighting it. Masks won't prevent it 100% but it should reduce the exposure.

@delukxy4 жыл бұрын
I'm looking at the definition of mild as being between 1 - 80 as per the 80% it covers. Assess the symptoms and assign a number. The first 20 - 30% can have a variety of symptoms with varying degrees of severity but can tough it out at home just like you would with "normal" flu. 31 - 80% scales everything up. Unfortunately local rules might mean you have no chance of getting tested even if you are at the very top of that range. One problem mentioned is that you can be ill with all of the symptoms but can't tick the box that you have been in known contact with someone who has tested positive.

Dave Post, might not want to give nurse Campbell too much credit. If the “good Doctor” was honest, he should have told people to wear masks from practically the start. I’ve been saying for months now on this very channel that masks should be worn. Trying to tell people that they need to wear masks, even if they have to make them home made. Warning people that they need to start wearing masks immediately! This “Dr.” Campbell has been REMOVING my comments, sometimes within minutes of me posting. He has been ACTIVELY suppressing information about masks working. I know it wasn’t KZbin that was removing my comments because I’ve also posted the very same comments on other channels and they weren’t removed. Be aware that this “Dr” also buys into every word uttered from the WHO without question. The WHO is CORRUPT and basically does everything it can to protect China’s interest. The leader of the WHO (Tedros) isn’t even a medical doctor. Tedros is a former Ethiopian politician who acted in a totalitarian fashion and was given a very questionable doctorate. Both my husband and myself work in the medical field and we both knew instinctively that masks were needed when the first reports came out of C19 being spread in aerosols. Anyone who work in the medical field with a lick of sense would have also know it and that includes this “Dr.” Campbell! But they kept their mouths shut because they parroted the WHO. While this nurse Campbell is very good at explaining medical information to the general public, be aware that you should NOT trust him to tell you the full truth. Make sure you look at lots of other sources of information about the pandemic too!

Talked to a friend of mine in northern Italy today and he claimed that the situation is worse than the numbers indicate. Yes the official numbers are down, but more people just die in their homes now, and are not on the statistics because they are not tested after death. He also clamied that testing of people generally was way down from before. If that is correct, the reduction in Italy might be partially artificial.
@guglielmoscecspir10534 жыл бұрын
Anecdotal reports from Intensive care doctors say that 80% of intubated people don't make it. Now if we know that 5-6% of people need icu and we have a fallacy in the number of affected people; do the math yourself. Every single country is spilling bullshit, some more than others. Everything is artificial when there are so many cloudy factors to account. Numbers are down in Italy nonetheless simply because the country has been in lockdown for almost a month now, that's the only reality you can have, because this is the only way you have to stop the virus when you are too late with it and trust me, most of the world is already late with it and doesn't even have the right citizens to deal with it; too many spoiled people around. Biology needs humility and respect, there is no easy way around it.

i'm from northern italy, numbers are lowering in % but they are indeed higher that what we're reporting, and we sure had more casualties and also way more people who got past the disease without realizing it.anyway i think number are shet everywhere , we're just misurating the tip of the iceberg. Also the idea of thinking this randomly started all in China in november is shet too, because none of the numbers of a single state around the world sit well with the timeline of the spread. just do the math, every state curve can be tracked down to september , way before the first reported cases, unless you change randomly the r0 in the phases of the spread to fit the datas, as they keep doing. 2017, 2018 and 2019 were all terrible years for influenza, it's possible sarscov2 was already around the globe but less pathogenic and then, through concordant evolution, with the upgrade of this year (polybasic protein cleavage) it has shown his presence to the world.

Going forward though i feel there should be a vote of confidence. The guy had the top experts of the science and healthcare fields giving him advice and...he went to a hospital and shook hands with patients then boasted abut it. He does not understand risk. In my mind that makes him unsuitable as a leader.

I bought ten masks for my sister in the UK from a supplier in Hong Kong, last week (I'm in Australia). Why haven't the health services bought up all the masks on eBay? There is no real shortage, it's a scape goat to get the hospital administration off the hook. It's not as if this 'shortage' wasn't well known about MONTHS ago: www.dailyexaminer.com.au/news/90-tonnes-of-supplies-shipped-to-china/3983282/ Maybe they were intending these masks be sold back to us, but surely the various health departments in the west should have figured out this was coming home to roost? Peak Prosperity was campaigning for mask wearing in January.

So not to burst your bubble, the Abbott test, "ID NOW" is an Antigen test. You have the virus or not. It is swab based. Antibody testing is either blood spots, dried blood or venous/finger prick. Think diabetes testing. There are numerous firms that have the ELISA based Antibody testing i,e, IgM, IgG, however, ELISA is 96 well plates and the CV ranges 80-90%. Additionally, ELISA is notoriously slow and cumbersome.

Likely they are holding off because detecting that you have had it but are still contagious has limited value, they want a test that shows you had it, are immune and not a carrier-which might not ever happen, we might always be a carrier, or be a carrier for more than a month after symptoms-all these people without symptoms, how long have they had it?

I had exactly these symptoms in late December last year. I felt as if there was something in my lungs and felt very out of breath walking up stairs and so on. At the time I just considered this a normal virus and so therefore continued on a trip we had planned to Brighton for the New Year. I remember walking up that long steep hill to Brighton station carrying my heavy travel bags and forcing myself really hard to complete the walk brisksly as I felt it would strengthen my lungs and help get over the virus. I must say that this was a different virus to the normal ones I am used to: I was checking the pollution levels at home and also felt so clogged up that I though there may have been some sort of chemical spill from nearby factories releasing irritants. Unfortunatelty, just as everybody who has a similar story right now, I have no idea if this was or wasn't COVID-19 and am sticking to all the suggested precautions. The virus was first identified in late November 2019 so i'm wondering if I was actually one of the first to get it in this country somehow...

@@MB-14 Yet we still don't know for sure. I think though even if it is the case we should still take all the precautions: I have been doing this since January and don't go out much or socialise anyway. Mainly because I'm naturally like that. We need testing, but I think we should still be cautious even after testing until we can get a real handle on how this thing works. Viral load theory would explain why people are getting it worse now as there's more of it around especially Dr's and nursing homes etc. Places where there are a lot of sick people with significant illness.

@@MB-14 In terms of pnuemonia: I know from family experice (my grandad died of it a few years ago) and then my Mum caught it and it almost killed her too. But I would say you would know about it if you have a chest infection to the point of pneumonia: I mean you feel so ill you cannot move much and can only lie down. It's a horrible disease and leaves permanent damage in most cases. Already millions die of pnuemonia every year-something like 400,000 children under the age of 10, and many adults too. Now with COVID-19 that will surely go up massively.

I met a retired couple had a similar experience. They were on the cruise ship in New Zealand where the volcano erupted. They said the Chinese on the trip all had 'the flu'. When they returned they too were laid low with it for a month. When the antibody tests are available it will probably be too late to prove we've already had it, they'll just say we were asymptomatic carriers, whereas we could have been helping out, back at work all this time.

Some (bad) news from my country Romania: we are on lockdown (i.e., we need to have a paper if we get out of the house, stating the reason of our exit) but the situation is overall still pretty bad. Prior to the extension of quarantine for people coming from Western Europe, when only home isolation for 14 days was required, a lot of people were found out of their homes, not respecting the rules - which is probably the main reason we have over 4000 total cases as of today. Thankfully, mandatory institutionalized quarantine was recently extended to anyone returning from Western Europe. This should have been done a month ago, but better late than never! The biggest outbreak (currently over 1200 cases) is currenly in Suceava county and Suceava city, where the hospital acted as the main source of the outbreak, partly due to the lack of PPE and partly due to the sheer incompetence of the doctors working there. The city is in a more restrictive quarantine, i.e. you can't leave the city unless you have a very good reason and there are police checkpoints all around. There are HUGE problems in many other hospitals with spread of COVID-19 (especially in those not specialized in treating infectious diseases), to the point that all hospitals in the country stopped accepting anything but emergencies or COVID-19 patients. There were even cases of infected nurses and doctors in a maternity clinic in Timisoara city (still no news on the results of the tests for the babies). There is a huge lack of testing, our country has received some 200.000 tests from South Korea in late March and we are only receiving another batch of 200.000 in late April. We basically have to compete for tests and equipment with richer European countries (like the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain) and we don't have their bargaining power. We were also supposed to get an order of ventilators, but that fell through, as all European countries want to keep as many as possible for their own citizens. The current plan is to repair a few old ventilators that are currently broken and that were probably going to be discarded. The current lockdown has been extended, because in the absence of tests, staying home is the only thing we can do. Personally I live a in a small town in the countryside, I usually work with my father in our small shop but we had to close down completely, since there are a few worrying reports of cases in neighboring villages.

I have a question, does the amount of virus we come into contact with effect the severity of the symptoms?
@nobiedupree59164 жыл бұрын
Yes. The viral load if bad enough makes it more severe. That's why doctors die.

Vanessa Realrose Yes, a higher viral load can lead to a greater complications with the illness
@foxfirelabradors59394 жыл бұрын
Yes, a light inoculum gives your body time to ramp up a defense before the numbers of virus builds up. A heavy inoculum (a cough in your face) can quickly overwhelm the body’s defenses.
@JeffTheHokie4 жыл бұрын
A light exposure does not mean a light infection- it means a lower chance of getting infected at all. Not every viroid (virus particle) will be successful. Once you do become infected, your own cells will mass-produce viroids by the billions. An analogy would be sperm count. It only takes one to fertilize an egg, but if your count is below 15 million, you are unlikely to become a father at all. A high sperm count is not going to make a woman "more pregnant".

Yes it is a crazy idea but we have given up on trying to contain it. But may be we do not have that many infected. We have done around 50.000 tests and out of them were 4647 infected. We have 3082 active cases now. Guess they are trying to get herd immunity among kids, their parents and teachers. It is up to each mayor to decide if time is right to open schools. Hopefully schools will only open where there is little to none spread.

In the US, states are responding differently because of different conditions. Example, Wyoming a state of 97.8K square miles has a population density of 6/sq mile. New York state consists of 54.6K square miles has a density of 421/sq mile. So why would people in rural Wyoming "stay at home?"
@peacenow44564 жыл бұрын
Density does matter when you can't escape each other in public, it's ANY togetherness THAT does MATTER. Playing Russian Roulette with innocent peoples' lives is the epitome of arrogance and evil and has Karma tied to it. They have a right to trust and live their lives.
@nmarbletoe82104 жыл бұрын
A agree. Driving from town to the ranch doesn't expose anyone. It's also pretty much essential if other people want to keep eating. We have to use our brains and adjust to local conditions. Anything we can do that is productive, and healthy, and doesn't increase our exposure, is good. A lockdown doesn't have to be "stay in the safe room." It's all about exposure and driving down that R-0.

IN THE U.S.A., the "curve" of total confirmed infected persons is rapidly flattening -- On March 30, 2020, the total number of confirmed cases in the USA was doubling every 5.2 days. On April 6, that number is doubling every 10.1 days. On April 3, the increase in the total number of confirmed cases in the USA from the previous day was 44,175. By April 6, the increase from the previous day had decreased to 22,951.

@Engineer Markos Mataas -- Every nation faces the same problem: How to end its quarantine? Small nations may be able to quarantine or to cure (or to bury) every infected person, but in bigger nations, that's not practical. So before quarantine ends, a system of testing and tracing will have to be developed and installed across the country. The pandemic will continue to flicker and flare for some time -- perhaps until a vaccine is developed. Meanwhile, in the world's poorer nations, the pandemic will explode -- as is happening in India and Pakistan.

@@everbeever -- To shut down the economy of the entire country for 2 months? I think that would ruin China's economy -- or the USA's economy. China could quarantine Hubei province for 2 months, but not the entire nation. After the 2-month quarantine was ended, the country would be ruined as if it had lost a war.
@everbeever4 жыл бұрын
@@kevinbyrne4538 But China did it. To save the people is the most important thing for the government and country. If no people, what is the economy for? why should the elders be sacrificed for the economy? The countries are built by the wisdom elders' hard work. They raise us up, we need to make them live longer and saver, not the other way around. We are currently in a war to fight the virus. After win the war, everything will be back to normal and be even better.

“How long does it take to learn from the mistakes of others?” As a race? So far at least 8 or 10 thousand years, but that’s only because that’s how long we’ve been writing things down. As far as I know, no one has proven that we’re capable of that at all.

Jim Butcher main thing is we don’t learn the mistake of still warring each other. All countries spend silly amounts of money on waging it. As an example $700billion dollars USA spent on military last year( $2100 per American) imagine the health capacity that would create for situations like this? Germany aren’t allowed a military “attacking” force due to their previous actions, still spend a bit on defending obviously but. Per 1000 people Germany 8 beds America 2.8 beds UK 2.5 beds. Look how well Germany are coping. For a few years after this a massive push on health will cover the world... then back to murder tools and health system drop. Unfortunately you are right we will never learn

I'm incredibly proud of California for being as proactive as they have been. The only issue I have is that they didn't do it sooner, but I think it helped that so many large businesses in the bay area reacted over a week before the state did. Still, there's so much happening in the states that just makes me sad for my country.
