Money No Object: Bowers & Wilkins 700 Series Signature and 801 Series Diamond

I have a pair of 702 S3 Signatures and can honestly say they are a fantastic combination of good sound and agreeableness to living in non-dedicated listening spaces. The downward facing port gives you more flexibility with back wall spacing as well. The blue finish is nice but only really looks blue in direct light. I do like that there is a matching Signature center channel, although I’ve been running 2-ch stereo for movies without any complaints. Overall a solid speaker in this price range. I have them connected to a Linn Majik DSM and a Rega P3, via Transparent Musicwave cables and adapters. The result is a system that provides high quality audio at a closer to entry level price (comparatively speaking).

I have a set of 804 that I bought new about 14 years ago and they were about $5000 for the set. I think I'll stay with those.

I own a pair of 705 S2 Signature bookshelf speakers paired with a modest Techniques stereo receiver and a $350 10" sub from Martin Logan. These speakers kick butt like no one's business. If I had $12,000 kicking around for the 702 S3 Signatures with matching Center Channel, then I would drop the cash in a heartbeat. In my opinion, the 700 signature series is what the 700 standard series should have sounded like from the beginning. The differences between the 702/705 S2s and their signature counterparts are cosmetic and a slightly modified crossover. The 702/705 S3 signatures have more extensive differences from the standard offering and definitely worth the premium. I agree that there comes a point where price to performance will eventually net you diminishing returns. For speakers, I don't think the Signature Series crosses the price/performance threshold, yet.

If finances allow, try to upgrade your amp & sub. U will be thrilled even more. I m still enjoying my 8 yr old cm6s2 mated with a Rel T7i tremendously.

Controversial opinion: anything above 1k is pointless for audio. Not even the equipment the song was recorded on cost that much.
