The reason why I'm out of money every single month is that every time I went to shopping, I asked myself: "Do I want it?" - Yes, Of course I want it. "Do I need it?" - Yes, I need it because I want it so bad. Then, I bought it. What a sad story for my wallet.
@nekochadechu5 жыл бұрын

This has been so immensely helpful!! I've certainly dealt with minimalism through my life, and recently been working at getting back to core values. Things don't make us happy, but it's so difficult to listen to understand that when we are bombarded with ads and societal pressures! Thanks for helping list this out... and for jus the strange validation that it's ok to not buy into consumerism!

i also unsubscribed from the make-up gurus and those that gets excited for sephora's vib sales. i find that they no longer fit my current lifestyle. ohh another tip is so ask for either money or gift cards to your favorite shops for birthdays or christmas. i find that this is one way I can own pricier make-up without having to spend my own money for them. i also learned to wait because i know i only have two chances to get them so i ignore sales unless i have a giftcard for them

I started watching the "beauty guru" videos last summer for tips on applying eyeshadow and ended up subscribing to a few. Several of them - usually those with a bigger following - do these HUGE HAULS. I didn't realize until I watched this how much it was making me feel inadequate. Never mind that they get a lot of stuff for free as part of PR packages. I think I need to definitely watch less of that and way MORE of content like this. For my own sanity. :)

I've been doing the 'no spend days' for 3 weeks. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the days. If I feel like window shopping, I go on those days so I don't spend money! Also, it pushes me to eat what's in my fridge and it helps me say no to coffees, pasteries and snacks that I don't need :D It makes me more aware of how often I want to buy things and how I don't need those things! Thanks for this great advise!

You are absolutely the most graceful person on KZbin. And your first tip to unsubscribe to channels that actually do hauls and reviews was something that got me thinking. I almost always end up buying makeup or clothes that I didn't even need when I see review videos. And your tip works on so many levels, because KZbin makes video suggestions based on what you search or most often view. So for example if your watching a haul or review you are automatically suggested millions of similar videos. And you are subconsciously prompted towards products that you watched in reviews even in your browser and other social media ads. It's such a vicious cycle. Thank you so much.

When you are older, like me, and live alone it is hard to find people to share meals with. It feels lonely to cook for myself and eat alone, so I end up going out to eat way too often.
@PickUpLimes7 жыл бұрын
You know Karen, this is something I've heard before. It seems a value that is more important to you is being able to see people and socialize, and if that means you have to eat out a little more often then so be it. Sometimes we give a little to get a little in other areas of our lives. A personal story: my parents just got divorced and for the first time in over 40 years they too are eating their meals alone. They told me it was hard, and I know it still is at times. But one thing my mom did and found helpful was she joined some hiking groups using a site called MeetUp. Here she met some lovely women her age and gradually began inviting them over every once in a while for meals, and they would do the same. It's not perfect, but it's something. Not sure if this helps, but hope it provides some consolation. Wishing you all the best in health and wellness, and with love from the Netherlands

@Tennouseijin4 жыл бұрын
"Cut your own hair" - I did, soon after the COVID lockdown, taking the opportunity since, even if if I don't do a good job, in two months no-one should be able to notice, and while I sit at home, no-one will see me either :P ... apparently, it still looks uneven, even after two months. Oh well. I used to ask my family to cut my hair, telling them that it'll be cheaper than going to the hairdresser, and I don't need anything fancy anyway. And that I'd do it myself, but not being able to see the back of my own head, while combined with the fact that doing it myself is just awkward due to operating my hands behind my own head, so ANYONE BUT ME, would do the job better. But no, they'd tell me to go to the hairdresser :/ And I used to comply, because doing it myself seemed like the worst option. But now, thanks to the lockdown, I could finally try it without too many repercussions xD

Talking about newsletter subscriptions, I had this sort of war flashback about when a year or two ago in the fall, when I was still in highschool, I got across Tai Lopez and watched his videos etc because I was interested in economy and enterpreneurship, and I was thinking stressfully, "should i want all that stuff?" and knowing that I could never be rich nor sell estates. And it made me quite miserable, so I blocked him, and that felt good. Now, at 20, I found these minimalism videos, and it feels quite much as if I've found my people. I can be at peace now. Money can buy you a lot of things, but materia is not the best thing. Trips with friends and family, hobbies, investing in your dreams, and charity are much better. :) I'm glad that there are many others who feel the same way.

This video was pretty comprehensive and touched me personally because my Dad came from a poor country immigrated to Canada was incredibly gifted and made a lot of money. We were raised to value experiences over 'stuff' but one does take things for granted … until the universe readjusts your vision; Zigo my Dad developed late onset Alzheimers went bankrupt and I and my mum juggled a lot of things to make sure he had a good life at home. That was when I learned the freedom of frugality and how to arrange priorities. I almost finished my doctorate; circumstances dictated that I had other commitments but still lectured at |UofT and the Sorbonne on an exchange program after Zigo passed away. Nothing to add to these essential ideas except … nothing wrong with a hairdresser if it is going to make you feel better about yourself and don't look like a movie star to yourself. :)

I used to go to a lending library where i lived before,but the place i moved to 2/3 years ago doesn't have a lending library culture somehow (i don't know how) so i usually visit annual book fairs where you get either second hand (used) books or older edition books at a lower rate...

Great tip on no spending days. Awesome that you bike instead of drive. I also use public transit when I can. Great video

Heyy! You have no idea how many videos on the topic I've already watched and this one was by far one of the best ones! I love how you actually have so many tips (and some of them are really unique but helpful) instead of over-explaining simple tips (which.. other people do). So thank you
