Jennifer Ann de la Torre i got sick a few years ago with a long term problem and because of it I became anxious and worried. A cat helped me tremendously. She helped me so much I got 2 more. They have helped me a lot...with company, cuddles and laughter as they do funny things. Each has a health problem though so I am lucky my husband earns a good wage. If you can't afford a cat of your own why not befriend a neighbour's cat (with their permission) as they are good at spreading the love. Good luck with treating your anxiety.

Hello, Jennifer Ann, I don't know where you are located. I'm in Montreal, QC and I believe SPCA its everywhere in Canada, you can also search in google for shelter homes in your area, most of them offer foster programs and will pay for the animal"s food. Good luck!

We are 53 & 54 yrs old & am semi-retired. We Love it. We had 2 full time jobs in the Midwest & recently moved to Orlando. We went from paying $2,500.00 a month to $1200.00 a month. We are living on a part time salary & we are loving it. Our way of life had to change but we are enjoying spending more time with each other. We go out to eat once a month. We cut out cable, we only have the Internet. Instead of paying $20.00 for movie night, we pay Netflix $9.99 a month for movies. We moved into a community that has a pool so we are there several times a week. For our birthdays we packed up a picnic lunch & went to a park then to the beach, it's really relaxing. My husband was blessed to find a job part time job that if he works 32 hours he gets full benefits. It can be done, make yourself a list of what you can eliminate & start from there. 😎

Great tips Christine! I have a beauty tip. Only buy when you're almost out of a product and are 100% sure you want to repurchase it. I used to run out and buy multiples or order them online but found that I really didn't like the product as much as I initially thought I did and then I had all those backups. I'm working on simplifying my products and my life and find a great sense of accomplishment in doing this!

A tankless water heater is good for reducing money , it doesn't run unless being used . We are canceling our cable . One thing we can't do is get rid of our second car , we both have to drive 30 min in opposite directions for work . My husband does car pool though and they split gas . Pets are a lot when you add in vet bill and for every pet you need an emergency fund . A huge expense for us right now is medical insurance , it's at about $1000 month . Another huge expense can be student loans .

Student Discount for Amazon Prime 49.00 for a year, I can power watch old shows that doesn't come on cable. This really help save money, however there are somethings that comes on cable that won't make it to amazon, hulu gets boring, netflix is ok but if you can share the bill with someone thats even better. Also internet will have to be added into the expenses if you want to continue streaming these services.

+PixelFace you can still see movies, just either use redbox or rent for free from the library. You don't have to go as extreme as she has with no tv, etc but pick a few areas that you can cut back on. I agree you shouldn't get rid of everything in life that gives you joy or you will become discouraged and quit. But you can usually find cheaper alternatives to the things you want to do. Use Groupon when you go out to eat and don't order drinks (just water), etc.

@CityWideSale8 жыл бұрын
Great tips; however, I respectfully disagree with getting rid of a hard line phone. Until 9-1-1 enhanced systems are universal and police/fire/ems can find you based off your cell phone, I maintain a landline. Dispatchers cannot locate you off your cell phone. They can come close (sometimes within 2 miles) but if you're incapacitated or in a position you can't talk to them, they can't find you. But if people are willing to take their chances, I guess that is their decision but as long as they are informed on emergency calls.

I think my favourite one is 'know what you owe', a lot of people have multiple debts with all different interest rates and they don't really check just how much they owe or how much they're paying in interest or fees. I was surprised to find I had a loan with a much higher interest rate than I realised. Once you know what you're paying the most for it's good to put any additional repayments on it to get it paid off then you can focus on the next debt. I also thought the 'wait for pets' tip should also apply to kids. Many people seem to decide to have kids without really considering how much they cost (a lot), they are essentially a money drain so it is smart thinking to make sure you have enough money to support them and yourself.
@ferretsam8 жыл бұрын
Another tip would be for people to stop getting nails, eyebrows, hair extensions, tans or whatever people get fixed professionally, all the time. If people want to save money of course. Obviously everyone is different & some people will see it as a priority. But it would save so much money over time to not get those things done out, when possible.

I can relate to many of the tips, especially cutting down or eliminating the things you just assume you 'need' (TV, bought lunch/drinks, cable, dryer), although two 'extra fuzzy' inherited cats snuck in the house, and yes the bills followed! (food, litterboxstuff, vaccinations, grooming salon). My absolute favorite way to stop waisting money is to NOT throw away food. I get a kick out of using whatever items are left in the fridge and turning them into a nice meal, or having a day where everyone can pick a favourite leftover meal from the freezer -> I save our money, I stop waste; win win.

shopping for clothes can be very addictive. I used to buy so much clothing and at the end of the year gave away stuff I didn't even wear. It is hard but still possible to control it. one year I decided to go an entire year with out buying any clothes. well I actually did six months but the results were amazing. Now I only buy what I absolutely need most times. I still surf the clothing stores on line or go window shopping. I even put stuff in the cart but I rearly check out. It's phycological. Lots of good tips, especially getting rid of the extra car. So many women also need to stop buying clothes because they're "cute" or on sale and wait til they actually need an item. There are now lots of good videos on planning your clothes shopping, instead of doing it on impulse. Also, their bathrooms are overflowing with expensive makeup that would take years and years to use up - long past the expiry dates. So wasteful to keep buying it before you actually run out of a product. And a really big one is to stop smoking.

All you have to do is go into a store and ask for them to check if your workplace is eligible and depending on the company you can get like 5-25% off or something like that! It saves us about $150/yr. Idk how well known this is but yea, just want people to get the discounts they deserve! :)

Does AT&T do that ?

+Maquillage79 AT&T gives a military discount. They may have other discounts too. It's worth a call to find out. :)

I really love this video. Can you teach how to make a excel sheet to record spending and budget? No need to give personal info just how to make excel file budget.

It always seems we are on the same page. I recently moved to the mainland from Hawaii. My hubby and I went through financial peace university and budget. We are going to be full time RV-I got for awhile. No rent or mortgage, solar for electricity, and DIY-ing up the camper. I am thinking that may be your next step too lol.

Hi Christine! I use a meal plan too; but more for ensuring I eat properly and with portion control. Part of that ties in with the not eating out as well...restaurants would be the usual meeting place but now it is the park or just tea for $2. I agree with all of the suggestions...would be interested in your take on how you and Michael decide on WHICH debt (assuming there are credit cards for example) gets how much monthly.

If she is a fan of Dave Ramsey, there's a good chance that she is following the Snowball method. You make minimum payments on all your debt (credit cards, loans, etc.), and put whatever extra you can toward the one with the smallest balance. Once that one is paid off, you do the same with the next highest balance. And so on. You don't look at which has the lowest interest rate, just the one that has the lowest balance.

Great video, thanks! I have one to add: Stop coloring your hair. I stopped almost 2 years ago and never regretted it. I save $150 every 6 weeks, my hair looks AMAZING now, so much healthier without the chemicals on it, and I feel more like me. Do what works for you, of course. This has worked so well for me and I get compliments on my hair all the time. I never did when I was coloring it! (I'm mostly platinum now, which is even trendy. LOL)

Yes! I love this! I'm a huge fan of Dave Ramsey (still on baby step 2). I started the same time I read the KonMari book.

great, Christine! I am focusing on becoming debt-free asap! Would be cool if when you and Michael move, you do a bunch of vids on saving money by making your own furniture, etc! Maybe a storage banquette, instead of a sofa.

You're videos are inspiring. Mahalo for sharing these great tips. It's taken me some time to embrace budgeting and to be mindful and patient with myself. We've not had cable for a decade now and are really chiseling away at our den. My weakness is the chai lattes and the weekly treating myself. It's really challenging to change familiar behaviors, but I will continue to work at it so my future me is not so stressed.

I remembre watching your videos when u came back from your Thailand trip and u started to go minimal, it was exciting cause at the time I was doing the same but then as your videos progressed you would make trips to Costco and Ross almost every other video and filled your small cottage with stuff... I'm glad to hear you're back on track 🤗 we are on the debt free journey as well!!

This really inspired me! I just resigned and starting a new job in August. Btw I am a Kindergarten Teaching living in Dubai. Well here we get a huge end of service gratuity. I just decided i will take that money and pay off my entire credit card so when I start my new job i will be totally debt free. I really want that freedom and can finally start saving!!!! Thank you Christine! P.S. I got lingual braces so that was also payed with my credit card. I know the struggle.

Eating out really DOES cost you more. Cooking at home ended up saving us an extra $500 a month, when we had 4 people living at home!! I couldn't believe it!! And take lunches to work too! Another good tip, which is one you've mentioned b4 (maybe even in this vid, if I didn't catch it)... but UNSUBSCRIBE from all emails that send you their current sale ads! I'm a sucker for a good sale, and eliminating that will save you from unnecessary spending. Also, save your grocery shopping trip to ONE trip. Running to the store every time you want/need something, or for every other supper, increases your chances of impulse buying while you're at the store for things you didn't go in for. Go once a week, and at some store once a month, and stick to making a list beforehand (for things you need, and also for recipes).
