Terimah Kasih Cikgu. Interesting how the language changes continually. When I was kid in Penang in the late 1960's 50 sen was "lima kupang" must be very old fashioned now.
@CikguLan2 жыл бұрын
Ha! Ha! Yes, you are right! 5 kupang, and don’t forget the 5 duit (5 cents)! Yes, I rarely hear the younger generation in Kedah, Penang, Perlis, and Perak “kupang” nowadays.

Do Malays also say "Berapa harganya?" when asking for price? or that is only used in Indonesia?
@CikguLan8 ай бұрын
The usage of “nya” (meaning “it”) is the same in Indonesia and Malaysia. In the case of asking for a price, in Malaysia its more likely to use ‘ini’, ‘itu’ or the noun itself. Interestingly, Malay has been spoken in (what is currently called) Indonesia since the seventh or eighth century. After independence from the Dutch in 1946, “Bahasa Melayu” (Malay language) was rebranded as “Bahasa Indonesia” as the nation’s unifying language.
