Interesting, when I was in Inner Mongolia, I saw the vertical script. Here, they are using the Russian Cyrillic characters. I am curious what the current stance is in Mongolia. Do they want to keep and maintain this or adopt the Inner Mongolian traditional alphabet?

Speaking around the time of the mid '90s, they were teaching the old script, again, in secondary school. They most definitely want to preserved their cultural heritage in Outer Mongolia. I lived there for a couple years and taught English in several schools. Cyrillic was due to the close ties with the Soviet Union and Communism. I don't know about now, but I'd imagine that the old script is a lot more prolific, but Cyrillic is pretty much everywhere as well.

@elsen8397Yea, I worked briefly in Inner Mongolia. So I saw the vertical old script. I was completely confused with their street lights. They have a dozen different arrows depending how you are going to turn or go straight.

They use cyrillic throughout Mongolia and the traditional script in Inner Mongolia in China. Although the traditional script is taught in schools in Mongolia, its use has become more artistic than functional.
