9:32 I hate to be all "writer/editor" on you, but I assume what you meant here is that you don't like calling him the main character because he's not a good person and you don't necessarily want to root for him to succeed. However, he is THE protagonist by definition. We the audience are following his journey and trials even if he is a villain or the cause of his own problems. Villain protagonist is certainly a thing (ala Death Note's Light -- which had a hero antagonist in L).

There’s some ambiguity about whether or not thomas is arthur’s father. After the last scene with his mother, he finds a picture of her and thomas and writing on the picture suggests they were involved. During the tape penny says that thomas had someone forge the adoption papers because of the scandal that an extra marital affair would bring. Neither she or arthur are reliable narrators, but it’s also very common for rich people to have affairs with the people they employ. Look at arnie, almost the exact same situation.
