Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

@@KZbinallowedmynametobestolen What wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum are you talking about? Infrared? Can't be, or the people would be significantly brighter than the furniture (due to being hotter). This look very much like light _amplification_ to me.

@@Wolf-ln1ml Well, the first hit on got on Google for "What wavelength night vision" said this: "Active infrared night-vision combines infrared illumination of spectral range 700-1,000 nm (just over the visible spectrum of the human eye)." I don't think it's safe to assume that we are seeing an accurate rendering of what things would look like with night vision googles.

@@KZbinallowedmynametobestolen Yea, it can damage the tube too. They are light amp devices, that can see into the IR. That makes IR useful for illumination that the naked eye cant see, but it isn't the only thing the nightvision picks up on.

It's "TV darkness". It's completely dark for the characters in the show, but nobody wants to just be looking at a black screen so they have dim lights on the set.

@@Fifury161 Monk was disoriented and not thinking straight. He muttered "lobby" in his living room like when he was stuck in the elevator continuously pressing the button for the lobby. He had to be carried out from said elevator.

Honestly my thought for why they wouldn't blind him is that maybe the goggles have a safety mechanism built in. That prevents it from getting to bright.

This is an old reply but newer models do indeed have such protections. Sadly Tech has advances so far that you cab no longer blind them by turning on thr lights.
