Why do they merge the hay into a windrow with the mower then spread it all out? Why not just lay it down with the mower, then when it dries down merge it for the chopper?

@James Marcellus Ic we're in really dry country, we chop our alfalfa 2 to 3 hours after swathing. Always curious what it's like to raise hay where there is real moisture and high yields. We average about 2 tons per acre on haylage, at 68 percent moisture.

It’s silage, , the Tedder dries it faster therefore faster turnaround
