Excellent video, really appreciated you sharing. I’ve got just under 300 miles on my blue 2020 Monkey, but anticipating the first oil change/service. I agree, worth going the extra step with the spinner. Well done, look forward to your future videos. Thanks!

Having to pull the entire case for an oil change (spinner and filter clean) is one of the reaons I opted for the kitaco clutch cover (added bonus of removing the oil spinner altogether). Now I've just got a standard oil filter that's easily accessible during maintenance. Tons of good information here for those doing their own oil changes.

Hi, Yes agreed, I am very much considering getting one - Are there any adverse effects from removing the spinner? such as rough idle or stalling?
@apio38104 жыл бұрын
@@hondamonkeytv4138 The Kitaco clutch cover will not install with the stock exhaust.

Ah - I wasn't aware of that, thank you!!!

Honda Monkey TV I’ve had no issues with removing the spinner. Without the added weight the engine can spin up a bit faster without the spinner, but hard to quantify how much that has helped anything. Like was mentioned there is a clearance issue with the stock exhaust (I hadn’t realized this when I mentioned it as I had already replaced the exhaust before I moved to the cover).

Thanks for replying - ok that's good, I was thinking along the lines of cars where I've fitted lightened flywheels, sometimes it can cause issues at low revs, as it lacks inertia. Not sure what the compression ratio is on these, obviously issues surface in the higher range (10+)

They made it so hard for oil change. Glad 2022 model has oil filter now!

Great video I enjoyed that. Re your comment the old oil looked dark. At my monkey first service the tech said Honda fill the engine with mineral oil from the factory. This allows better bedding in of the wearing surfaces. Then at first service they switch to synth as you have shown.

Hi Steve, Thank you :-) Ahh I see yes that makes sense - I usually use low-grade oil in my car engines for breaking in.

I'm not familiar with this particular Honda engine. But I have worked on a few other Hondas. I am willing to bet that removing the entire side cover is not necessary. Instead, just the small circular one with three screws. To stop the spinner from turning while extracting the screws on the spinner, just put it in gear. Other than that, I agree with the auther.
@hondamonkeytv41383 жыл бұрын
Nope, the side cover is completely solid. They have put a proper filter in the 2022 model.

What an awful way to change engine oil! I can't believe Honda did that. I imagine a lot of people will just drain and replace the oil 50% of the time!
@terjelundstrm35533 жыл бұрын
On my Honda Innova, which is basicly same engine, you first have to do it by 7500 miles (12 K). First time there was quite a lot of debree(?), I just did it again by 27 K, a lot less, so I think I will wait longer until the next cleaning of the inner filters. I do, however, change the oil according to the service schedual (2500 miles /4 K) or sooner. And that was the Honda ANF 125 Innova.
