The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, commonly known as the Monkey Forest, is a popular natural and cultural attraction located in Ubud, Bali. Encompassing approximately 12.5 hectares, this lush forest sanctuary is home to over 700 long-tailed macaques. Visitors are drawn to the sanctuary not only for its playful primates but also for its rich biodiversity, ancient temples, and serene atmosphere.
The forest features a network of shaded pathways that meander through dense foliage, offering glimpses of the monkeys' daily activities. The site also houses three significant temples, dating back to the 14th century: Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, the Holy Bathing Temple, and the Prajapati Temple. These sacred structures add a spiritual dimension to the natural beauty of the forest.
In addition to its cultural and historical significance, the Monkey Forest serves as a research and conservation center, promoting the preservation of Balinese cultural heritage and natural resources. It is a place where visitors can experience the harmonious coexistence of wildlife, spirituality, and human activity.
