Crazy to think how for The Secret of Monkey Island they could only get a small handful of tracks in the entire game, most of it playing silent, and then just ONE year later they manage THIS. Not just a giant soundtrack, but full of so many absolute classics, and exhaustively branched for dynamic scene transitions.

god damn, 7 year old me was mindblown! I remember spending first hour entering and exiting all locations in different parts of the music just to hear those transitions, wondering what space technology did they use to make it work. Now I know and it's even more mindblowing. They don't make them games like that anymore..

+Brian L Most of the other versions use a version that was sourced from someone who got the original MIDI data mastered from some high-level company...I get what they were trying to do, but it sounds nothing like it would have if you were to play it on original hardware. There's no clear cut "original" version of the game's soundtrack, but this is about as close as you can come seeing how the grand majority of people couldn't/weren't willing to afford more than a Sound Blaster or Adlib card.

+Mr. Eight-Three-One You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed it! :D Yeah, I was fed up by the fact that people didn't bother to post the full soundtrack of this game. Mine couldn't be considered full either since it misses some parts that are randomly generated (like the part of the game where Guybrush fights LeChuck in the tunnels at the end of the game) since those would be too difficult to record and would make the soundtrack double.

I love this soundtrack, in fact the adlib versions of most lucas arts games sound the best(at least to me) I actually got most of this soundtrack from another site vgm rips (actually from a youtube site that posted them there) It has the underground tunnels but you actually have a few things it missed. Largo the miser,You're too slow,and most importantly "Jumping over" which has that Indy theme parody which is the one I first noticed was absent from the other ost. Thanks so much for posting this, I couldn't have done it myself especially when there are sounds effects in the game(not many sfx though since its mostly music)

DUUUDEE!!!!! You are my savior!! I cannot believe that finally someone had the nerves and stamina to gather up all these fine tunes into a soundtrack like this one... I was about 6 years old when the game was released and since me and my cousin were not able to find a solution to the Largo voodoo doll assembly riddle for a couple of weeks (we were kids and not allowed to play all day long), we would spend HOURS walk around all the places in Woodtick and enjoy the magic of iMuses' 'tune-transition'....we tried to make transitions happen that were musically particularly interesting but never had the means to record any of that back in the day.. We were playing on a state-of-the-art 4-86 back in the day and had to make a hand-built copy of this old fashioned cardboard-copyright-thingy that was included in the box, because my aunt would take it away and lock it in coz she said we'd play too much... xD jeeez i am rambling xD Anyways, you are many people's HERO dude, done like a PRO!!

Listening through the soundtrack again after all these years (AdLib was my childhood experience of this game!), and it kind of blew my mind how Largo's Messy Room song was adapting the Largo theme over the Woodthick theme and creating a new melody alltogether. The melodies were so good, and together with the pixel graphics made the game so memorable. I just finished playing through Return To Monkey Island, and even though the graphic style is nice, the pixel style in Monkey Island 2 is much more atmospheric, and the music was in my opinion not comparable at all. No melodies that became memorable or stuck out. That's why i came back here to remember what was it that made Monkey Island 2 so memorable, and now i can see(hear) why.

Okay, I was reading around on your site and you mentioned that they eventually discontinued iMuse because few noticed it...that's actually not completely true. It was used in quite a few later titles (all the way through Escape From Monkey Island I believe, which was as late as 2000), but they just never did anything near as ambitious as they did with Monkey Island 2 since they put so much work into it yet so few noticed it (they had two people working FULL TIME on only the Woodtick transitions!). All the later games use more simplistic tricks, usually just fades or gradual instrumentation and not much else. They used it for a fair amount of time, they just didn't quite go as all-out with it as they did with this game. Kind of a shame, I think what they did with iMuse really is phenomenal in this game and shows just what you can do if you're dedicated with it, but it's also understandable as you probably wouldn't notice it unless you either are really focusing on it or you have prior knowledge on how the system works.

+VengefulChip Yeah, when you listen to the one on the soundtrack you can tell that they've combined each segment of it into a longer one. It's quite a long track so I can imagine. If I ever get up to that point again and I have Audacity ready maybe... Hehe. Yeah goes to show you can't please everyone. I remember how I'd sometimes just spontaneously KZbin search for the Adlib soundtrack in hopes of finding one, and after many years there it is.

+SethBlizzard As I explained to +ShyGuyXXL, I couldn't record those parts since they are difficult to catch due to them being just random melodies played according to what happens on the screen. If I were to capture those as well it would've too me an additional of 2 months to finish this considering I would've had to do the same for the other ports of the game. Also the soundtrack would've doubled in lenght.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but how or where can I download this awesome version!? When I was a kid, I recorded this soundtrack onto a cassette and listened to it every night as I went to sleep. I want to do that again! Thank you for uploading this!!

Any chance to get a new mirror of the FLAC files? I‘d love to download it but the link is not working anymore as mentioned in the comments already.

I believe the "Unused" track at the end is actually from the waterfall area on Phatt Island

This is so great! Like someone else said, the emulation on some of the other versions floating around just don't do the songs justice. Question: where did the "Unused" song come from? How did you find that?
@VengefulChip
@VengefulChip 7 жыл бұрын
Those were extras that I recorded with HooT. Those are supposedly unused songs from the game that were available in the game data. I wasn't the one who extracted the game data.

I think I heard that on Phatt Island, or maybe it was very similar.

Oh wow, did you manage to rip this all somehow? Awesome! Now do it for Fate of Atlantis :-) UNK should be the waterfall theme, and 28 seems to be same as 54, I think.

+Laukku I don't plan to do any LucasArts games for a while now :P Actually I'm not sure if I'll be able to work on new stuff at all, since my current job gobbles up all my free time. But I sarted a Patreon campaign for that, hopefully I'll be able to raise enough founds to quit my job :P Also, you're wrong on both accounts with the incorrect tagging.

+VengefulChip Huh, seems you've changed the numbering in the description since my comment. I meant tracks starting at 1:36:50 and 2:58:29, they're the Dinky Island beach theme. And UNK definitely plays at the waterfall.
@VengefulChip
@VengefulChip 8 жыл бұрын
+Laukku I probably changed the description after you mentioned that. You were right about the Dinky Island theme playing two times in this soundtrack... so I probably removed that entry from the description with the intention to fix and re-upload the soundtrack, but I probably forgot about it. Sorry about that! As for the UNK track you say plays in the waterfall (I assume you mean on Phatt Island), I checked the game in that area (again, after I read your comment), but I don't think there was any music playing in the AdLib version, I remember all I could hear was the water flow. I can't check right now as I'm not on my home PC, but I will do so once I get the chance to do so.

***** I checked a longplay and it does play at the Phatt Island waterfall. It's easier to hear once it's been turned off.

What about the music inside the underground tunnels at the end? You skipped from the beginning of that part right to beating LeChuck.
@VengefulChip
@VengefulChip 8 жыл бұрын
+ShyGuyXXL Unfortunately I won't be doing those, as that section of the game plays the music randomly which would mean the whole soundtrack would get a few hours or redundant music, and also it's quite difficult to catch all the songs (or should I say variations), AND do the same for all the ports/ supported sound modules of the game.
@ShyGuyXXL
@ShyGuyXXL 8 жыл бұрын
+VengefulChip That's too bad. I really love that music. :(

+ShyGuyXXL Well this soundtrack is still more complete than what's available out there.
@ShyGuyXXL
@ShyGuyXXL 8 жыл бұрын
+VengefulChip Yeah but it's also missing some of the transitions and song endings that other soundtracks have. Like the little bit that plays when you break out of jail. Also some songs would flow into each other in the game which would sound really good. Like how the intro flows into the campfire music. But in this one there's a pause which kinda ruins the flow. :/
@VengefulChip
@VengefulChip 8 жыл бұрын
+ShyGuyXXL Those transitions are difficult to record for the same reason as the music in the tunnel at the end of the game: they happen randomly and they play random notes as well, depending on the position of the song that's currently playing, so these transitions would be difficult to be recorded, and sound right. And for the transitions between the intro songs, those had to be done that way to fit into my tagging/audio splitting "guidelines". You'll probably notice this on other game soundtracks which have weird intro transitions like most adventure games, or the full song doesn't get played when the game is running.
